Sometimes playing with bots (computer controlled players) is a fun twist.

For playing against monsters see Coop or Bloodfest instead. For race, see Race.

Bots for Quake/QuakeWorld exist since the game was released. Frikbots, Omnicrom bots, bots for CTF, ..... Today, the most common bot modification is Frogbot. These are integrated in the latest versions of the server modification KTX. This means you can connect to the server and and spawn some bots to start playing!

KTX bots

Connect to a modern KTX server (some servers don't have bots enabled - /botcmd won't work - find one that does). Once you connect, use the console to type commands:

  • /botcmd enable - enables bot mode - map will restart
  • /botcmd addbot - adds a bot to the match

And that is it! type /ready to start the match.
Alternatively, here are some more commands:

  • /botcmd addbot 5 - adds a bot with skill 5 to the match
  • /botcmd fill - fills the server with bots
  • /botcmd - will print some more commands.

Additional notes and commands:

  • Skill can be set by entering [0-20], default is 10. A new player will want to start with a lower value.
  • Once a bot is on the server, its skill is shown in the bot ping.

Here is a video explaining the process. Currently there are plenty of maps that you can play with bots: dm6, bravado, dm4, povdmm4...

TOT Mode

ToT Mode is a bot mode which adds some rules to the bot matches, its quite fun.

offline bots

You can also play with bots offline by running your own mvdsv + ktx server and run your own KTX server with bots. nQuake is bundled with offline bots.

Alternatives

There's an alternative way, in which you download the bot modification, extract to your Quake folder, and run the bots offline, in your own computer.
For more, read the blog entry of KTX supporting Frogbots: https://www.quakeworld.nu/blog/396
There are others, like Omicron bots and recently Humanoid.

lgc

LGC (Lightning Gun Competition) was a worldwide offline competition vs bots. Rules were simple, determine which human player had the best lg vs bots. You can read more about it here: LGC.
