New Duelmania tournament announced
Earlier today Dopeskillz revealed that a brand new instance of the famous Duelmania 1on1 tournament has just opened up for player registrations. This time we look forward to see if Rikoll can defend his title or if runner-up Bps & co. can stop him from plowing through the competition this time.

This season will as usual feature a double elimination system where the games are battled out on the classic maps DM2, DM4, DM6, Aerowalk and ZTNDM3 in a best of three maps series. More information can be found either on the Duelmania website or in the #Duelmania channel on Quakenet IRC.

Head on over to the Duelmania website to sign up!

The rules section could use some updating. The Game settings and Clients sections in particular stand out as being outdated. That spawn model is never used,
everyone uses alpha clients now to get around some bugs, and the ruleset requirements have changed completely since that was written.

As for the ping rules, do we really still need a rule more complicated than, excluding server-specific packet loss problems, people should play with equal pings if they're both considered to be in Europe? For example, as the rule stands, if I put up some shitty server in Ireland then I can play with equal ping vs random Hungarians without problem. Otherwise I'm stuck with a minimum of 26ms disadvantage against my Central European brothers. Why should someone's unwillingness to put up a server near them actually hurt their tournament chances? That seems like a ridiculous requirement.

Also, the way the current map-picking is done allows multiple plays of a single map in a best-of-3 series. It's the kind of rule that stifles diversity and encourages specialisation rather than broadening required skills. Also, I think it's less interesting for spectators to see two people stubbornly trying to be the best at one map rather than trying to be the best at duelling, which is kind of the point of the tournament.

If this doesn't drag me out of qw-inactivity then nothing will...

You can always copy qwenya rules, I updated them when I saw people were actually reading the rules.

Just entering for the fun... Prepare to witness the most spectacular first round exit from a tournament since France in the 2010 FIFA World Cup :-) lol

Good luck to everyone!
Nice with a tournament for all the duelers out there!

There are quite a few names on that list of signups that doesnt play 4on4 in eql so it is good that there is something for them to look forward to as well.

Btw, is there a list of all noteable 1on1 tournaments and its winners?

I dont play 1on1 so I dont really know which tournaments are considered _the one_ to win, like VIllains, Smackdown, NQR, QHLAN and now EQL was/is in 4on4.

Yeah I was actually a bit puzzled that there were so few "seasons". 7 winners since 2001ish?

Compare that to all the titles in 4on4 since 2001

One could argue that there is some inflation in the 4on4 titles but I thought there had been more duelmania seasons. I probably just mixed different 1on1 tournaments up.

Ah yeah, showdown, besmella and hymn of hope are not listed in that article either --> http://wiki.quakeworld.nu/1on1

Also Ownage felt like the spiritual successor to Duelmania for a while when Duelmania had a break(?) as the rules and format were pretty much the same and it was about as popular too.
