EQL10 - The season starts today!
The start of the 10th season of the European Quake League was just announced at the EQL website. This means that the divisions that was open for discussion are now final, and teams can start playing their matches.

The update also include some info regarding changes from last season, so be sure to read the full statement.

Preseason preparation is over, and season 10 of the European Quake League is good to go.

For the past 5 days, we've had an open discussion regarding the division structure, we have now made the final divisions from input given to us by players.

As you might notice, we've switched from last seasons 3 divisions to using 4, this is to better fit in the season with the schedule.

Please take notice of the changed map pool, and how to handle map picking in the rules.

A new feature on the site is that clans can now schedule their games, so please make sure that you check the site for requested dates from your opponents. We will use these suggestions for possible walkovers (hopefully that won't be needed). Also it will make it easier for spectators to follow the league.

For teams without an active irc channel, please be available in #eql.qw on Quakenet.

Other than that, have a great time participating in EQL10.

You can start playing your matches!

\o/ go play

Hooray \o/

Just to prove I read the rules:
# Spawn mode: Either KTX Respawns or KTPro Spawn is to be selected
Should probably be changed to allow new KT2 spawns that are default on servers with recent version of KTX

Also having some real ping rules might be a good idea. How about just using cl_delay_packet to match the pings up, maybe with an upper limit of like 52 or whatever? Not the average ping, but the individual ones. :E

Also: No map can be played more than once, except in BO5 games (Playoffs).
Hopefully that's left behind from TB3 season and the exception should be removed.

Thank you for noticing.

Oh god damn it, I was looking forward to competing in a large division with highly skilled players, and I wake up to find that we've been bumped down to division 3 right before the divisions were closed? Discussion periods don't work if you change everything around at the last moment and then end consideration.

My team was happy with their division 2 placing and the large number of teams in each division so they didn't feel the need to comment on the sorting, and now we have no recourse? We absolutely raped DC in the last pracs we had and they're in division 2. CMT, for instance, are heavily outperforming them at the moment; doing to us what we did to DC on the last dm2 we played against them (I say this taking into account fluctuating lineups.

While it's almost certainly too late to say anything because the discussion period has expired and we have no choice but to play out the season as is, I, and several others I have spoken to, are not happy about the random, last-minute shuffling.

Stev you should have said you liked the way it was before then, during the 'discussion period'. i thought 4 divs would make for more close games and overall better experience this time around.

agreed on some minor misplacements but there's always gonna be room for discussion. it's applaudable that you would like your team in a higher div, of course.

Stev, I understand your frustration, but we simply couldn't afford to wait any longer - We asked for input on what was just a division draft. We've used the input we got to make divisions that would fit the schedule for this season.

The best thing you can do is play your matches and stay active as a team, so you'll get a better placement in a possible EQL11 in jan/feb. And tbh you guys did get the div that you requested.
2009-10-27, 14:35
On that note, that division was requested as I was given a list of 6 divisions from which to choose, and picked accordingly. Had I been given a list of 3 or 4 divisions, I would have requested 2.
2009-10-27, 14:40
But don't worry, my team will stay active regardless of division. I'm mostly just expressing frustration at the alarming speed and finality with which these changes were brought about.
2009-10-27, 15:05
We understand and we are sorry that you got placed wrongly. We will however make sure you get into a more suited div for your skill next season.

Your team is also very active Stev and it is being noticed. The thing is, we can never be 100% sure when judging all clans. I know you guys want to play as high as possible. When I first heard you aimed for div2 I didn't think you would make a chance. With the addition of an extra div, where you now have a div2 that mostly consists of clans that were div1 in the first structure, I think it would be a bit weird to put tks there. Take this chance to prove to everyone that you guys are div2 worthy. And I know you want to play many games but we have to be realistic: eql is starting too late and we don't have much time to complete the entire league. You have to keep in mind that others play far less than tks. A somewhat smaller division (in comparison with earlier draft) is the best thing to do atm.

i can dig it
2009-10-27, 18:59
CMT div3 and FU div2 although CMT constantly kicks our asses? I hope we do deserve our div2 position, but CMT should also be there...
2009-10-27, 20:21
Yeh.. I'd definately put CMT in div2 and DC in div3. I think DC lost Tom/blsp? Who got replaced by played who played in div3 last season. Not 100% sure tho. Just something you might consider, but ofcourse contact those teams about it
2009-10-28, 02:23
cmt/tks/fu/dc div2-3 is certainly questionable/wrong, but other than that the divisions do look great. Should be an awesome season. Just need to get my homies to prac cmt1b so we can crush Stev and his minions...

NEVER! My ISP have finally promised to look in to my horrible connection problems! I will get 100 frags every game np!
2009-10-28, 10:06
And I thought this season the divisions will be done without rush. How naive
2009-10-28, 11:57
First there was a draft put out so people could discuss. Internally, we discussed alot about the divisions too. Then there was a final draft which we reviewed/changed internally again, with the input of some externals. So why do you imply they are done in a rush? There might be a small mistake regarding a small pool of clans that are in between div2 and div3, but we will have to see that to be sure. But if that is the only critique I take it as a compliment.
2009-10-28, 13:29
Players had no time to react on the 4 divs schema, that's all I am saying.
2009-10-28, 14:12
For the most part, that is true. But we can't let everyone respond to every draft. It will be a vicious cycle, admins posting a draft and people responding to it so we make changes, posting a draft again etc. Especially since we have limited time to complete the season.
2009-10-28, 15:36
Yea it's good to get it going asap ofc.
2009-10-28, 19:19
This season might not be the best but we have to live with it. As it is we expect EQL to end the 20th December, considering in Sweden people celebrate Chirstmas Eve (the 24th) our schedule is very tight, a problem we won't have next season that definitely should be better.
2009-10-28, 22:46
The placements are just as good as other years, tbh. If people enjoyed previous EQLs then a couple of minor misplacements this season isn't going to make anybody rage. I think the main problem is that DC's current lineups will struggle pretty hard in div2, but time will tell.
