MVDSV reliable sounds take two
As most of you might have noticed, some time ago MVDSV had a change that should prevent sounds get lost during packet loss, something that has been quite bothersome for people with lossy connections.
Earlier last night another change was made that enables this feature, reliable sound channel, for all players by default. Servers that have been updated to use the new revision are:

Quakeworld.fi
Troopers.fi
Flavium.mine.nu
Qw.intarweb.dk
Wargamez.dk

Now comes the important part. This feature CAN be buggy, so I can't tell you if it works 100%. I have tested it myself with Milton and obviously some other people have tested it too. If you experience ANY bugs, you can test if the bug goes away by using following command when you are on the server:

setinfo rsnd 0

Using value "" or 1 will re-enable the reliable sound channel. What can happen is:

1) Missing sounds = feature not working properly. Don't mix this with ezQuake's current limit of 8 simultaneous sounds, only newer 2.0 alpha version has 32 sounds limit.

2) During pl sounds that would get normally lost will be played with slight delay and this can be a bit annoying. The reason why should be pretty obvious.

Sadly the only way to test this is to use big enough amount of people playing, so bear with it. We have means to disable it serverside pretty fast via variable so if it does not work as it should, we can go back to old sound system.

pattah, you should talk to your mom and dad about that - but might be too late to file a complaint
