EQL and QWDL update
The European Quake League will close for signups today, Friday the 13th. This is the last chance for you or your team to participate in this 9th edition of EQL.

Also today, the QuakeWorld Duel League will open for signups, and it will be possible to sign up for this 1on1 mayhem until February 26th. The first season was a huge success, so don't cheat yourself for the opportunity to participate in the sequel.

I wouldn't say QWDL was a huge success. Someone bring ownage/duelmania back!

It wasn't a huge success? With that kind of league structure I disagree, we saw a lot more games played than in a DE tournament, as everyone played the same amount of matches. Where as in ownage/duelmania most only play 2. But yeah, would be nice with another DE season, at least for the spectating aspect.

Well, due to the nature of divisions, any inactive players had a huge effect on how people experienced the league, because they didn't get "knocked out" after missing a match.

Aside from the dead players, the way the league kind of fizzled out without any noticeable finish and some poorly handled walkovers, the sheer staggering amount of games played, from the peaks of div0 clashes to the noobshows in div24, has to qualify it as a success.

Armed with hindsight, I'm sure the admins will make QWDL2 even better.

Imo it was a succes, ofcourse the ending was an anti-climax.

This league was set up after I brought the idea of a division based duel league to this forum, which was picked up by Grump who made an awesome site for it. It was pretty much only my idea and the other work was done by Grump.
Ofcourse this was also a problem as there was only 1 person who could fix the problems that occured on the website and that was Grump.
Not a problem, but since he went back to work he lost activity and time he needed for keeping league running smoothly.
I hope he manages to find some people that can do as much as he can about the league/site so that season 2 will be a great succes.

As a member of the admins of last season I ''apologize' for going inactive midseason. I joined the team so I should've finished the job, but simply ran out of free time.

I agree with everything the Irishman said.
However, I can also sympathise with bent as I'd love to see Duelmania/Ownage back. I think it's what QuakeWorld currently lacks most.

Most needed are tournaments for new players, not for 5% of top players. Do that and complain why QW is dying in the same time and enjoy the art of self-contradiction.

5%? Aren't you exaggerating a little bit?

Sure number of participants is the same, but e.g. for 256 players in FDE 75% of players is out after 7 rounds while there are like 22 rounds total.
