QuakeWorld Duel League status
We got a brief update from the crew behind the QuakeWorld Duel League, one of the biggest duel events in QuakeWorld.

The league itself is over, meaning no more matches are going to be played. The current standings, however, are not final yet. Read on for more info about what will happen next and what's the situation in Div Zero.
There was some information vacuum for last couple of weeks, also the site was temporarily down last few days. But now it's back online and we can check that one of the last matches played was Div Zero match Gamer vs. eh and was played on 21st November.

Vloody took his time explaining the current situation about the league. There are unplayed matches which means that significant amount of points are to be given out in walk-overs. This will be all done semi-automatically once the main man behind the whole site, Grump, returns from his - hopefully short - break. Rules talk clearly about walk-overs. If players still want to request a walk-over, they should post a comment under the appropriate Match Info page.

The rules also talk clearly about point deductions. The site system automatically monitored players' activity and calculated point deduction for inactivity from that. The amount of these points should already be visible to everyone on the match pages. However these will applied no sooner than the walk-overs are given out.

After that we will know the final standings, which for example in Div Zero are following:
1. reppie (26 pts)
2. LocKtar (23 pts)
3. Gamer (20 pts)
4. marklar(fifi) (19 pts)
5. locust (17.55 pts)

One thing is certain and that's who gets which special award. Go there to check who is the biggest LG beast, Camper, Pain Giver, Spawn Rapist, Spammer, God of Prediction and many others.

So the crew hopes it's leader Grump returns and settles all this final things.
We should be looking forward for next season of QWDL which was planned to start somewhere around middle of January 2009 and as we know the seedings will be based on the results of this first season.

Why is it that people invest a lot of time in starting something up, and then disappear before it's over? I don't get that.

You are not the only one wondering. But the biggest problem here seems to be that nobody else than a couple of persons can fix it.

About special awards: they should have an option to show "top 10" as well as award winner for each award

Do guys, who do something on a voluntary basis, need to offer 24/7 support as well? I don't get *that*.

Sometimes people need to take a break and cannot pay attention to their hobby/project, may it be due to work or whatever. I'm sure none of those guys invests his spare time (or even money) just to annoy us later on by leaving just for fun. There's always a reason. I'm sure Grump will re-appear soon... just cut him some slack.

I can't wait for season 2.

pattah, well I never said it wasn't ok to leave. I'm responsible for a lot of qw-related stuff, and if I'm away for some reason or don't have time, I give out access to someone else, so they can do something if the shit hits the fan.

My personal status is that I had to lower my time behind the pc. The only reasonable thing to drop was quake and allthough I really love this game I just don't have the time for it. Unless I tell my gf to fuck off and go to hell, but that's something I really don't want to happen

I'm still a quake spectator tho. Allthough it would be better if I wasn't coz it's in someway self-torture, coz when i watch a good game I want to play myself

Regarding QWDL. I kinda lost my activity during the season when grump and a few others were still active. This was also because I just couldn't keep up putting time in it anymore. Unless I stopped playing quake myself, but that would remove the reason for me to work on it.
Besides that all I kinda could do was confirm matches. The entire coding was done by Grump which he did amazingly well, but he's the only one to edit stuff so without him QWDL is kinda fucked.
I was afraid he wasn't gonna be able to keep it up. I hope he will be back for QW tho!

Oh and hey Jon
Say hi to Nef when you see him!

pattah no one has ever asked anyone to have a 24/7 support, but what we ask of admins of leagues is that if they are going to be active any longer time that they tell someone about it makes it possible for us that are left active to do something when they aren't there.

"Unless I tell my gf to fuck off and go to hell, but that's something I really don't want to happen "
hmm... it depends on that what is the number of the GF... no1, 2 or 3

Zappater: I got that. But how long exactly was Grump absent now? Has it been a month already? That's what I meant by 24/7 support -- "slightly" exaggerated of course. Don't panic just yet.

Of course it would have been better, if Grump set up a contigency plan beforehand and arranged things so that admining goes on. But do you always think about it before it's too late?

Also, giving out admin rights and grant access to servers is not always that easy either. Just imagine that you don't own the servers yourself, e.g. company servers, but you are allowed to use the resources. You just cannot give out access to some bloke on the Internet then. As far as I now, Grump is fairly new to the scene, which makes it hard to judge whom to trust or not to. Just a thought...

Sorry to all that I havn't been about. I get about 2 hours per day to eat and do everything else after work and sleep

I will have some time over Christmas to sort stuff out so now would be a good time for everyone to comment on unplayed matches with regards to who should get the W/Os and to ask for new feature requests.

TBH I'm amazed that any matches got played - didn't really think that people would want a second season - but I'm glad that they do!

To the haters, I have said it before - if QW paid I would do whatever the community wants as soon as possible - it doesn't so it has to wait a bit
