MetaQTV!
Say what? In short, MetaQTV is a simple PHP script that checks many different QTV web-sites and gathers the data on one web page. How does this help us? Well, you don't need to know specific QTV, only the MetaQTV...
So, check it out here:

http://cqe.rytir.com/metaqtv/ (development version, check this for new features)

http://qtv.quakeworld.nu/ (official)

As you can see, one page contains only those games that are being played. You can also check all the servers if you wish by clicking full list and it should also give you the list of QTVs it uses to fetch the data (currently three, suomicom, butt.se and lamicka).

Pretty neat huh?

in practice almost no need of ase/gamespy if all servers will join this qtv world, simple user interface with all you need to see at one place/page accessible from everywhere...waiting for more server as well
2008-06-23, 06:54
You can't join via the interface
2008-06-23, 08:03
That could be arranged pretty easily. However we are not talking about server browser so I don't know if it would be a good idea to add qw:// links there. If enough people wished such feature, well, it's totally different case then.

There's always quakeservers.net ... And last but not least .. we are looking for more QTVs and more QW servers broadcasting via QTV! If you know admins of such non-QTV-enabled servers, please contact them and kick them in the direction of QTV

needs nicer levelshots

JohnNy_cz: I'm running a couple of servers (qw.quakeklan.se) not on QTV, cause my bandwidth simply don't allow it :/..

qw2.quakeklan.se is running on 100/10Mbit (a bit more upload probably since it's BBB, so say around 10-15Mbit upstream and 4 ports), so kind of low on bandwidth there too unfortunately?
2008-06-23, 15:31
I'm not exactly sure how much bandwidth each connected QTV user takes, only that it's much less than a regular spectator/player, but 100/10 Mbit on only 4 ports sounds like it's enough.

What requirements should one count on when doing calculations on bandwidth usage when it comes to players, regular specs and QTV specs on a server? This could be good to have in a "How to calculate bandwidth usage for your server" in the forum.

Can anyone tell me why the dutch xs4all servers ain't on qtv?
It would actually be cool to have the ffa server on it too.
Flepser?

4on4 = 6,25kB/s
2on2 = 2,9kB/s
1on1 = 1,5kB/s

For each spectator on QTV. QTV to server is always ONE TIME that amount, so:

Client <-- number of clients * 1,5 - 6,25kB/s --> QTV <-- 1,5 - 6,25kB/s --> Server

-> Client to QTV traffic is low
-> QTV to server traffic is non-existant
-> QTV on idling server takes no bandwidth

A single spectator or Qizmo observer takes many times the bandwidth required compared to QTV <-> Server connection. Got Qizmo running? You are WASTING your precious bandwidth.

Sounds like fog is way on the safe side if he decides to enable QTV? ;}
2008-06-23, 20:04
Well qw.quakeklan.se only has 6mbit upload, and its on my homeinternet, would be to set max QTV-users 10 or so, that might work
2008-06-23, 21:54
I don't know if you are just joking, but what you just wrote might be misleading for readers. You can leave some other QTV to broadcast data from your server for you, your server doesn't have to do that.

JohnNy_cz: If you meant me, yeah I understood that. But that pretty much requires to find someone willing to do that to (not saying ther ain't, cause there probably is). It sounded wrong too, the real issue about qw.quakeklan.se is that it's going down soon because I move, so I dunno if it's worth the work to get it up working a month, and then to remove it.

raket told me that he has some hardware changes planned for qw2.quakeklan.se, so as soon as that's finished QTV will become reality I hope. There will hopefully soon be qw3.quakeklan.se too (or changed with qw.quakeklan.se) that's on a dedicated 1Gbit line, although 100GB/month max upload transfer, but with really nice routing. That ones will be on QTV if someone with QTV that wanna help out with it?
