Intarweb.dk re-opens its doors!
As you might have noticed, easy.quakeworld.dk went down earlier today. No worries as our good old friend Nomad provided us a new server on intarweb.dk and this time it doesn't pl as it's running on different machine.
The servers can be found from the following addresses:

qw.intarweb.dk:27500 (qizmo)
qw.intarweb.dk:27501 (allround)
qw.intarweb.dk:27502 (allround)
qw.intarweb.dk:27503 (allround)

And I've added the servers to the QTV too. The latest builds of MVDSV and KTX were used, so most of the new stuff should be working too.

there's also some 'new' qw servers on www.ack1.se on bbb fibre, if they get used much maybe some extra ports will be thrown in.

I (used to) ping easy.quakeworld.d with 2 ms from sweden. Now i ping qw.intarweb.dk 43 ms? GG

I ping both easy.quakeworld.dk and the new qw.intarweb.dk with 9ms from sweden, which means 12ms in QW. What happened with easy.quakeworld.dk then? Host decided to stop running them or what??

Oh, forgot to say, Thx!

"What happened with easy.quakeworld.dk then? Host decided to stop running them or what??"

The host was the community. It was servers that were paid for out of our own pockets (not mine though) and the funds had been spent quite a while ago. Paradoks, who was handling the renting of the server, even said he paid for it himself in the end.

How about try to set up a page where people can SMS and donate like 10SEK or something each (per sms), and then try to cover the cost for a year, and then reopen it?

To be honest it's not worth it. Easy was a good example of the almost worst case scenario where routing wasn't fine and the server had random pl due to excessive bandwidth usage of the host (they couldn't quarantee 100% dedicated bandwidth) but that's how it goes with public web hotels that might have many users.

Renzo: Worst case scenario?

When quake.se had PL, easy also had PL? Otherwise i've never had PL on easy, and pinged 12ms in qw all the time. Easy-qizmo to Wargamez gave me 12ms there too. I loved the servers

I seem to be one of the only people able to ping the new servers @ 12ms too :S
I set up a test-qizmo for lakso to test, and he got 25ms to qw.intarweb.dk through that. Unfortunately it's on my 12/6 home connection, and I can't have the qizmo dedicated

fog, with an sms services of 10sek/sms, we would need a 1000 people to host easy for a year, and thats not even counting the price of the sms service, so make that 2000 people

People can try a test server on hard.quakeworld.dk:28501

Zalon: It was just a suggestion, and ofcourse, the choice to donate more should be availible in that case. SMS service was just an example 'cause to it's easy to use.

Just brainstorming, trying to help, nothing else....

same ping on hard for me as on intarweb and easy, 38-42 + 0-2pl
I got 29-38 on war

You forgot to add "almost" that I had written in the earlier comment.

And yes. I was the one who got lots of privmsgs on IRC about easy and it's pl. After digging somewhat into it (testing all the server related stuff + pinging/tracing route from different hosts) the conclusion was pretty much clear and like I described earlier.

There is so little you can do when it comes to routing and when your service/web hotel provider isn't an ISP. They have only so much bandwidth available and you never know in what kind of block you get your server set up.

We also got few downtimes too, which is pretty bad considering our free servers that run all the time without problems unless hardware gets broken.

well that surely sucks, easyquake was far better than wargamez, intarweb and than the new hard.quakeworld.dk server.. pinging 50 to intarweb and 60 to hard.qw.dk, gr8!
2008-01-30, 16:48
The old wargamez (pre-november) was the best .dk server for quite many players. Too bad it had to be moved to another location :\
2008-01-30, 16:58
they all suck for me

121ms 119ms 115ms gw.intarweb.dk [81.161.164.131]
46ms 46ms 45ms wargamez.dk [83.136.89.122]
49ms 50ms 49ms hard.quakeworld.dk [77.233.232.12]

but intarweb had 36ish yesterday so what can you do
2008-01-31, 00:21
chosen qizmo (swe) gave best ping for me. around 45 about same as wargamz (30-35ms)
2008-01-31, 08:21
Renzo: Allright, didn't know that. Still, it worked fine for me most of the time, but I have a local ISP with extremely good routing though. Might depend on that too.

Tried qw.intarweb.dk yesterday, and yep, got 12ms there. Sad it doesn't work too good for the rest of you
2008-01-31, 08:27
I set up a test-qizmo on my homeinternet (can't guarantee uptimes or stability), but you are free to try it and see if you can lower your ping to qw.intarweb.dk through it:

qw.quakeklan.se:27500 - qizmo
(Or first just join qw.quakeklan.se:27501 and see if you get better ping here than .dk-servers.)
2008-01-31, 08:37
in game:

hard = 52ms, no qizmo can fix
qw.intarweb = 38ms, no qizmo necessary
wargamez = 38ms, no qizmo necessary

strangely I usually find that I need to use the xs4all qizmo at night to get 38 to wg dunno if this will apply to qw.intarweb or hard yet.
2008-02-01, 13:15
added it to servers.txt
2008-02-03, 13:41
i had constant 12ms on easy, now on qw.intarweb.dk i have 54ms..
with proxy 38ms.

easy was teh shit for me 12 ms ftw
