QHLan 11 is in the books
QHLan 11 is in the history books. It has produced a 1on1 finals that ranks probably top3 in my mind in terms of intensity and skills and maybe even overall playing time with 4 overtimes! You can download the full 1on1 demopack here, for some reason I can't upload it to CHTV... The 2on2 finals and the 4on4 playoffs were also a feast for the senses, as was the overall positive vibe from the gamers who were there.

This has probably been...
This has probably been one of the smaller QHLans, and maybe one of the reasons why is that most people thought QHLan 10 would be the very last QHLan, and QHLan 11 was announced quite recently, not giving a lot of people to prepare. (And then some people couldn't prepare afterall for various reasons.) The community seemed a bit lethargic to respond to the lan battle cry, but there was more div1 talent at the lan than I expected. And I was not able to make any blog posts simply because there was so much more to do at QHLan for me, than at Dreamhack!

Dreamhack will hold their second QuakeWorld tournament during the Summer 2008 Dreamhack, and I hope that with the success of DH07 (not counting the demo disaster) more people will show an interest in DHS08. I also want to thank Willgurht for his help in getting me to the lan and providing me with a PC on which I could play, Renzo for doing behind-the-scenes work of setting up various servers, Zalon for setting up the video stream and commentary stream, and LethalWiz for letting me crash at his place after the LAN, as well as all the chefs at Palmyra Kebab for making ridiculously good kebab!

And of course, most of all, I want to thank the QHLAN Crew, Eter, Lorn, Grymmt, Peppe, and the other guys whos names I simply don't know or remember after that 100 hours of mayhem. Most of the people that go to lans don't really think about the amount of work that involves setting up a LAN and making things run as smoothly as they did this time, so well done!

my guess is 80 +crew

I guess 70 including crew. Sad that not all 109 signed up finally showed up. But imo the information and preparations about the lan came to late, as usual.

I don't think it's a mystery why the number of attendees were smaller. It's cold facts. Information came too late. Web page came too late. Venue arrangements came too late. Seatbooking never happened. It was doubts all the way until you finally got there and got plugged in.

Sorry for all whining, I just think it could have been done ten times better. But in the end, I had great fun at the lan and it was very nice to meet all the people!!

I am one of those who did not show up and while i'm dead bored with QW atm i can only agree with what bps said.

It's great that the QHLAN crew arrange this event once a year, but question is if we should be happy with how things are, or improveimproveimprove to fully take advantage of the potential that a gathering like this has. The improveimproveimprove part also goes for every other aspect of Quakeworld - we should never be satisfied with the current quality of tournaments, "media" exposure or Hagge nudity etc!

It's great to hear that DH Summer will probably host a Quakeworld tournament by the way.

Ake! I had a little chat with lorn about dhs08 in the last hours of this lan, and we though of bribing YOU, Ake, to be there in the role as the spider in the web, setting up qw etc. so everything run smoothly. Why? You live in Jonkoping, and you're the qw-guru that dhw07-crew lacked! how does this sound?

Well i'm already impressed by how QW at Dreamhack went a couple of months ago and if it will happen again i sure am tempted to help out.

"han är sämre än hagge"

Heard that a few times during the LAN.

I dont think that the qhlan crew can be held responsible in any way for the late information and such.

We knew for a long time that there would be a LAN in either Årsta or Märsta the first weekend of January.

Did anyone really doubt that there was going to be tournaments in 1on1, 2on2 and 4on4?

10 bucks that it was mogge who said that

The lan was ok but the tournaments was a disaster. The 1on1 was played over 2days and the 2on2 was over in 1h. The semis in 1on1 was delayed like 5h?. The tourneys started ~10h to late. For us who dont like 1on1 it was al about waiting. And in the 2on2 tourney we got to play 2games (the winner played 4games). After some complaining to sassa we got best of 5 in 4on4 semi. So the ending on the lan was ok. Otherwise the worst qhlan i participated on. And iv been there since qhlan4 or something. Bether luck next time.

well the delay of 1v1 was because none had tested the tournament management system, which looked promising, but wasnt that good.

If we would have used the other alternetive (phpTourney) we would just have had 2 games per team/person/clan.

Due to the delay of 1on1, we had to sacrifice 2on2 groupplay.

4on4 still have got the amount of focus that u could have expected beforehand. But i might be wrong, as i left early.
