Demos from Quakecon released
The gunsmoke from the Quad Damage tournament in QuakeCon wiki has finally settled. The live coverage from the event was close to non-existant, but finally all the demos from the tournament are available for download.
The demos from QuakeCon 2007 are finally available for download! Some of them are better than others, but the demos that are worth watching are probably from Kovaak, Thump4 and Fojji among others. There are about 80 demos for your viewing pleasure.

Head on over to the Quakeworld directory

hehe most looks like div5 but fojji/fox played ok. Althou many had very good lg's, I guess the RL and the jumping is the hardest to adjust to.
I think fox uses rocket jump script btw, i assume it was allowed?

yeah he uses kf and it was allowed

Always a pleazure watching the Doctor of Move KovaaK on Aero, especially vs. such a good rookie as Fojji.

Lost-cauze showed some nice cs (+slowspawn) skills against FienD to stretch out his early lead into victory.

Dunno what dahang's history is with qw, but he really schooled nocs Thump4 on aero Adding insult to the injury, t4 bored on two occasions while rjing to ra and managed to shaft dh directly into mega in a basic spawnfrag situation and getting pined to death thereafter (

Also have to say that the methodical approach is very prominent in many of these players' styles, suggesting vast experience in top tournaments.

i agree, even thou most looked sucky you could somewhere spot that they are pro and have experience from other games. Althou thump4 played really weird in that aero vs dahang, like just +forward and stupid. I dont think he knows aero that well.
Kovaak played nice thou, some nice shooting tactic towards RA from the middle room was nice

As a side comment, I wanted to watch some quake4 demos as well just to see what it looks like (the VOD's didn't really give the best idea).
1. Install q4
2. Download newest patch
3. Notice that I need q4max, download it
4. Notice that I need a newer version of some map? l2dm4_1.pk, download it
5. Try to find how to play a demo from normal q4 menus, can't find it
6. Start q4 with q4max gamedir, get demo running and notice that the demos are from one pov only??? (or I'm a noob)

vs.
1. Download nQuake
2. Open demofile with ezquake-gl.exe :F

And about the demos, I was surprised to notice that even toxjq, who is noted for his shafting (at least so I understood from the commentators) got only like 20+%. Maybe shafting is more difficult or toxjq used shaft for spam a lot, but still, pretty low if you ask me, especially with the added bonus of hitsound and crosshaircolor changing :/

Oh, and q4 movement sucks ass

The first versions of Q4 were so fucked up that you even had to have _all_ maps that were on the server in order to get in - and there was no autodownload feature!

Purri was beaten in q2 and won in q4 versus some q4-guy... everybody has their day
also they had lcd-screens wich are utter shite for qw, and u couldn't modify qw to your specifications..

I've seen many so-called elite shafters in QW (xamp, inter, oldschool-para etc) get sub-30% in some matches. Shaft spamming can have a factor and also what I call 'over-shafting', i.e. cells fired after your opponent has died but before you release the button. This might be more prominent in Q4, not sure if it has instant body filter?

You would not like to be up against toxic on povdmm4 thats for sure.

Fox played like a pro! :>
2007-08-13, 15:08
Shaft % is a useless statistic imo.
2007-08-13, 15:20
If it only took into account cells fired roughly in the direction of the target while said target is still alive it could be quite useful Significantly more complex to calculate, though.

i think dammage done in povgames could say something. Not always true.
2007-08-13, 22:04
^^yep I've said in the past that in 1on1 matches it would be nice if the stats could ignore all cells fired when the opponent is dead. I wouldn't have thought it be that hard to code since the server knows health of all players and could eliminate all cases when health < 1. Not sure how and it works though and whether there would be a cpu hit for example if it has to check health on the fly each time a cell is fired (10 times a second).

Well, Quake 4 was my first quake game, but I love qw.
Unfortunately my 1st match was against Kovaak.
