Ignition Season 1 report
First season of Ignition wiki is over and I have interviewed the top three players and written my thoughts of this successful tournaments future.
The finals

Winners bracket final >>> report
FFSlight wiki vs nemo wiki
Ffslight took home aerowalk just as he always does and we had dm4 as the next map.
Was very tight until ffslight suddenly had 250 ping.
Blessed as the decider and there was no question on who where the better man here, ffslight took control from the start to the end and was to the Grand Final.

Losers bracket final >>> report
amokchen wiki vs nemo wiki
Nemo took dm4 quite easily home and aerowalk was up where amok proved that he is the better man with a 44-10 win, the decider was ztndm3 and yeah, amok kicked out the favorite and was in the grand final.

Grand final #1 >>> report
amokchen wiki vs FFSlight wiki
Amokchen needed to win this first series of BO3 and the next one to win.
Dm4 was very tight until the end when ffslight finally got some spawnfrags and lead the map to victory.
Aerowalk is a map that they both enjoy playing and surprisingly amok won this one and the decider was vdm3v3.
Amok got an early lead but ffslight came back into the game and it was tie with 10 sec to go but then ffslight died.

Grand final #2 >>> report
amokchen wiki vs FFSlight wiki
Amok going with Dm4 but this time he didnt leave any space for ffslight and won it.
Blessed was now up and amok had only seen this map once before (20 min ago when ffs played nemo) but somehow got a great start and just timed mega and ra the entire game and got to win it, King of Ignition season 1, amokchen wiki.

Third player nemo wiki

#1 You were the favorite before the finals, what happend vs ffslight and then vs amok?
Quote:
Light's map was aerowalk, which I knew from the beginning, and I had close to no chances of winning since I'm at my parents house on their computer. I couldn't really decide for myself if I should pick dm4 or dm6 vs. him, but ended up thinking it wouldn't matter much, as he would probably eliminate the other one if we were going for a 3-mapper, so I picked dm4, which worked out okay. I got a bad start, but came back, and then he started lagging, and there wasn't much to be said about that one.
I didn't really play the kenya maps a lot, actually only played blessed once vs. vortex in the tourney, and when light eliminated ztndm3, there were only hate and blessed left, and I decided to go with blessed, as I atleast tried that once before.
Light obviously played it a bit more than me, and ran me over for a deserved win.
Against amok I knew I had my chances on dm4, and then he, as light, would pick aerowalk. So I decided to go with dm4, hoping for a dm6 decider. I won dm4 with not too many touble, got control half way in and didn't look back, and he ran me over on aerowalk (surprise).
If we were going into elimination round, I would have eliminated ztndm3 for sure, and he would probably have eliminated dm6, and that would probably leave us with a kenya map which I (suuuuurprise?!) didn't play, so I just decided to ask him if he wanted to play either dm6 or ztndm3, and he obviously choose ztndm3, leaving me with not much as a chance on beforehand. And it went as I suspected, I got owned!
So the short version of this is, that I really should practise some other maps than dm4 and dm6, if I want any chance to win anything. ^^

#2 What were your impression of the tourney, want to compete in more QW tourneys?
Quote:
It was pretty good, will probably sign up for a few, atleast if the map pool gets a little smaller. I have no chance of practising 5 completely new maps (ztndm3 and aerowalk I know from q3), leaving me with 5 kenya maps I never seen is just a little too much. But it was good fun!

#3 QHLAN11 will be in the start of January (first weekend) we will have tourneys for rookies aswell, any chance of seeing you there?
Quote:
Not impossible, I don't know my plans for januar yet, but if I can get in a car with maybe amok and light, we might show up. ^^

#4 Any last comments to anyone, do it now!
Quote:
Well, thanks for the hosting the tournament. That's about it I guess? ^

#1 No one thought u would be able to win vs Nemo but there u were winning two games and were of to the finals, what happend?
Quote:
Well, i had absolutely nothing to lose going into this i expected Nemo to be the best player in the tournament and that i was actually the weakest of the 3 remaining players, yet i still got very nervous as i often do when playing these games. I figured well, Aerowalk is my map, and i was told many times that i play too agressive there, and i would be better off using my tactical skills. I tried to predict his movement a lot and damage him often, while trying to set up small traps for him.
Dm4 i expected to lose big, but it was fairly even and then suddenly the routing fucked up(why does this always happen when you play important games?) so at 10-10 in scores i think i got ping 250, and then i didnt land a single frag after that. But as i figured this wasnt Nemo's fault i didnt want to do a rematch of the map.
On to the elimination i had a good tip about nemo: try to get to play Kenya maps vs. him. Luckily i think he eliminated ztndm3 in the end and chose blessed. I have no idea why as i think he would have beaten me on ztndm3, but he must have thought i was good there, anyways, i had never seen blessed before, so it was probably a good choice, he had played it once. However i started off pretty good, getting a lead early on and finding the RA from that i just tried to time it and that made my progress to the grand final.

#2 What were your impression of the tourney, want to compete in more QW tourneys?
Quote:
My impression of the tourney is very good. Its one of the best tournies(adminwise) i've played online. Everything felt under control at all times, and the amount of walkovers was kept to a minimum, not a thing im used to. Also i played some very good games in the tournament i think, coming to the game pretty green i expected to go out early on, but i met people who i could beat and/or play equal with. This was very nice!

#3 QHLAN11 will be in the start of January (first weekend) we will have tourneys for rookies aswell, any chance of seeing you there?
Quote:
This will depend a lot on my work, and how the next months progresses. Im not sure if i will stick with QuakeWorld yet, but it sounds like a nice event. Maybe if someone else from Denmark is going theres a chance i could be there

#4 You had the upperhand on vdm3v3 in the decider in the first bo3 series vs amok, but u somehow lost it in the end and lost just before overtime, what happend?
Quote:
Well, i had played this map a few times the past days against a guy in #qwrookie named Dudeheit, so i was fairly happy with the choice amockhen made. He must have expected i was totally green here. However he surprised me how good he was, and i think you can even see on the demo that the last 30 seconds im thinking "hm, i should go to overtime, hope to take him there" but then i had i think 100/200 and i expected amokchen to have less, especially cause i landed a rocket directly on him, but my attack failed 1 sec before time went out, so that was more or less all or nothing at that point. So you can say my agressive style killed me in the end
The last two maps i found it hard to focus, it was one hell of a fun session but i kinda felt dillusioned having lost the first Bo3 and sort of felt he was just too good for me.

#5 Any last comments to anyone, do it now!

Phew, well i wanna say thanks to the admins, and the community, you really do a great job to make newbies feel welcome. Everyone is extremely helpful. Thanks for a good night of Quake World, lets hope for more of those

#1 Coming from behind and winning 3 straight games, first vs the favorite nemo and then two straight vs ffslight, how did you do that?
Quote:
Well, first of all I feel that I had a really good insight into how the two of them would play their games.
- Which map they would pick
- Playing style
- How good their aim is

Nemo:
I was pretty confident I could beat both of them in a bo3. In nemo's case knowing I would only possibly lose dm4 to him, and avoid dm6 as decider.
Nemo is playing very well, he plays very controlled and knows where to put his rockets. On a sidenote to that his aim is not that good and this is why I felt I could take him.

Light:
Against Light I was felt pretty sure I would only lose aerowalk, that is his favorite map which he plays all the time, so just for this scenario aerowalk has pretty much been the only map I pracced all tourney, also considering it is my hatemap in quake3 where I come from(not that bad for qw though ). Since it was the only map that was pracced I knew that we should be on equal foot there at least!

#2 What were your impression of the tourney, want to compete in more QW tourneys?
Quote:
This has been a very nice and fun tourney, im glad that I entered it.
I would love to see more tourneys, I dont really feel motivated to play if there is nothing to compete in.
I'd specially like to see and play in an endif tourney
You won't find much of a teamplayer in me, and I don't really like tdm, so 1v1 tourneys are the way to go!

#3 QHLAN11 (stockholm) will be in the start of January 2008 (3-6th) we will have tourneys for rookies aswell, any chance of seeing you there?
Quote:
Only way id go all the way to sweden was if some of my irl friends were going, but they have stopped with gaming some time ago.
Or if Light decides to come and pick me up from the other side of the country! :p

#4 You have only lost to Dozo in this tourney, name the best 5 players in Ignition #1 from 1-5.
Quote:
Im not sure if I should rate myself here so ill just put myself at the top and make a list of the 5 other good players!
1) Nemo
2) Light
3) Dozo
4) Roelis
5) Xaus (sadly he decided to make a suicide run and drop out of the losers bracket)

#5 Any last comments to anyone, do it now!
Quote:
I have a comment for Sassa, Allah won't protect you on endif anymore!

Thoughts about the future
Since I wont be able to help out as much in September, I would like to have a new base of admins, what I need from you:
1, Check the Admin news each day, write in the admin news after each message.
2, Put pressure on the players through irc or email
3, Write big reports about each round on QuakeWorld.nu like I have done
If you are qualified for this, then comment here or send me a message on irc

I didn't know if I should run one big tourney for everyone or again one for only rookies, but now after the success I will only run ignition for rookies, might change the style of the site since I'm not 100% satisfied with its looks.

Signups will start on Sunday (12thof august) for Ignition 1on1 rookie Season 2 and The irc channel is #qwrookie

enjoy
