QCon Tournament rules revealed
Today the Quakecon wiki staff revealed the rules and prize distributions for the tournaments. They feature a small surprise as DM6 wiki, which has previously been mentioned as one of the maps, was replaced by Aerowalk wiki along with DM4 wiki. We now also know that the best allround quaker at the event will be $20,000 richer at the 5th of August.
The tournament rules for the upcoming Quakecon wiki tournament were revealed today. For Quakeworld it is a quite standard setup with the exception that games will be 15 minutes instead of the regular 10 in Quakeworld because the tournament staff wanted to streamline the rules as bit and felt that timelimit wasn't such a major concern in Quakeworld.

Concerning the map issue in this tournament they choose two maps for each Quake game. In prior discussions DM4 and DM6 were mentioned. Now that they have made the rules official you can tell that they have dropped DM6 in favour of Aerowalk. Thus the two maps for Quakeworld are DM4 and Aerowalk.

Below is a summary of the Quakecon tournament rules:

Maps: DM4 and Aerowalk
Client: EZquake Client 1.8
Server: MVDSV 0.26
Server mod: KTX 1.33
Timelimit: 15 minutes
Overtime: 2 minutes
Deathmatch: 3 (says 1 on the rules page, but check the forum for confirmation on DMM3)
You can examine the server configs at the Quakecon site.

There are of course rules on how settings works in the other Quake games and how the actual game selection works when you are going to play an opponent. I'm not going to cover that in any long article here though. It's basically that you choose game/maps like you usually only choose maps, and in a 1-1 tie, the third game and map gets randomly picked.

They have also made up their mind on the prize purse distribution issue. Below are the amount of dollars each top place finisher receives.

First Place: $20,000
Second Place: $12,500
Third Place: $7,500
Fourth Place: $5,000
Fifth-Eighth Place: $1,250

This would be a welcome addition to anyone's wallet i think. I might try doing some interviews with people who are going to Quakecon and are going there with the QW skills sharpened up.

Stay tuned!

well i think it is pretty obvious that none of the qw players can make it far in this tournament. But i'd love to see kovaak prove me wrong.

Or do we actually have anyone that could win maps in q3 or q4. But this is an excellent opportunity to promote the qw for sure.

the nQuake package hopefully makes this the easiest game to install and get started with and if eztv would work, that is even better.

To bad that they choose aerowalk before dm6.

Aerowalk is the way to go...!

QTV/EZTV isn't configured correctly in their server config.. someone (Renzo) should post on the QuakeCon forums the correct settings for that. i'll post it myself if people are lazy to register

...if they will even use ezTV.

The frag count part is a plus for QW players though.

Any ideas why they ditched dm6?

They ditched dm6 in an attempt to make it easier for q3 players who are familiar with Aerowalk.

...because we all know how hard it is to learn DM6...
