In other news:
FTE runs in a browser.

Screenshots pending...

Info:
This is more for server admins (duh, the ones with websites to be browsed). If they include the to-be-released plugin object on their page by embedding a .QTV file, the FTE in-browser plugin starts up, reads the ip from the qtv file and connects.
The QTV file contains either a 'stream' or 'join' directive, so can be used to direct clients either to watch a game via qtv, or to join the server and play, depending on the QTV file chosen.
An individual web page can embed multiple plugins, and resize them via javascript as each is activated, so you can embed them on community sites or whatever.

As you can tell, I don't work in public relations.

Oh, and FTE can run the halflife gamecode, too.

As cool as this might be, isn't this going to be a problem:

No, why? You let trust them, don't you?

If you're going to download a plugin that has direct access to your computer's hard drive, registry, browser's memory space, etc, then you really do need to trust the author of said plugin.
A plugin that wipes you hard drive is simply annoying. But a plugin that snoops on your bank passwords is a major risk (in part because banks make money from fraud, but that's a convo for some other time).

The warning is a valid warning though. And yes, it might put some people off. I still need to make a .exe installer for it (so it can be easily installed for other browsers). And that will bypass that warning, but give you with the regular 'omg are you really going to exec that' message.
Once its a bit more complete and tested a little more extensively I'll try and get it up on mozilla's plugins page, which should make life a little easier. But it'll still have that warning, as is only right. It'll just be easier to get there.

Crap, you got to be kidding. Does this mean that FTE might run Half-Life singleplayer one day? Or does it already? Do I have to set sv_coffeemaker to 0 for it?

FTE kinda/sorta works with half-life singleplayer, but a lot of stuff is obviously still in development. It can run earlier (pre-vgui) half-life mods - both single and multi - but multi ones work better/crash less. I too dream of one day running half-life singleplayer with bloom, realtime lights, loading 24-bit textures, and all the other cool stuff fte has to offer.

So far I have tried (and can play to some degree):
Half-life 1 Singleplayer 1.0.0.5 (loads, but some maps crash)
Half-life 1 DeathMatch 1.0.0.5/1.0.0.9 (Pretty stable, but there are some glitches with weapons here and there)
Team Fortress Classic 1.0.0.9 (Like DM, stable, but many weapons glitches. Classes work, menus don't due to broken centerprint)
Counter-Strike Beta 5.2 (Loads, but crashes with SZ_BufferSize error once you select a class. I had to manually boost this in the source code in order to play)

I just tried it.. and WOW - I'm impressed. Now make it multi platform and you beat the Quakelive team not only in coding efficiency but also speed! :-)

The browser version can play quake 3, so technically it beats QL in that too
