Since I'm having a hard time setting up my qw, I remembered to ask here what are the optimal video settings for PERFORMANCE in qw. With my old Voodoo3 card I had to change some settings to get it working properly. and now with my "new" 7600GS i'm kinda "lost". Here's what I have now. Should i change something? never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

should i change something is a _really_ bad question, you should ask what should i change if i want x and y?

anyway, i dont believe its gonna improve my qw, I just thought it would be nice to have this question answered never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

Right then change-> (didn't include any lines where you dont need to) Antialiasing - Setting Off Force mipmaps - Bilinear Texture filtering - Off Tripple buffering - Off

This is what i would recommend:
Anisotropic Filtering: Application Controlled Antialiasing - Gamma Correction: OFF Antialiasing - Setting: Application Controlled Antialiasing - Transparency: OFF Conformant Texture Clamp: Use Hardware/OpenGL specificacion (if u notice screen laggy use OGL, if not use Hardware) Extension Limit: ON Force Mipmaps: OFF (set it in the game) Multi-display/Mixed-GPU Acc: Single Display Texture Filtering - Anisotropic Mip Filter Optimization: OFF (set it in the game) Texture Filtering - Anisotropic Sample Optimization: OFF Texture Filtering - Negative LOD Bias: CLAMP Texture Filtering - Quality: Doesnt matter what u set, this changes the texture filtering options (like a shortcut settings) Texture Filtering - Trilinear Optimization: I see no fps gain ON/OFF, so id rather keep it OFF to ensure screen stays smooth (if its actually doing anything) Triple Buffering: Only works with VSync ON, and in some situations its even worse to enable it. Since Vsync is laggy just better turn it OFF Vertical Sync: OFF

Extension Limit: Force Mipmaps: Uups. Do NOT change extension limit, especially do NOT enable it. Also do NOT force mipmaps as it lowers image quality with very slight performance increase (1%, worth it?). TBH even if you used maxed out IQ settings in the NVCPL and used max resolution and quality settings in qw you'd still have enough fps in QW to run it few times the physfps with that card. You should never change "texture filtering quality" in the NVCPL to anything other than "quality" (=some optimizations) or "high quality" (=max IQ).

For QuakeWorld (ezQuake) he should. I've gained at least 100 fps more, test it with timedemo xxxx.xxx For other games its possible they crash, so it should be OFF. I dont play any other game so i have it enabled in Global Settings.
If you do play other games just add ezquake-gl.exe to application settings in Nvidia Control Panel and enable it, that way it wont cause any problems at all.

c2d e6600 + 7900gto at default clocks there is virtually no difference, 1370fps vs 1320fps it seems. The main use for this setting is in the pre-defined Application Profiles included in the Forceware drivers, in that some games require this to be set to On to prevent problems. In general you shouldn't change this option unless specifically directed to do so. Off is the default and best setting in most cases. I rest my case.

At higher resolutions the diference of fps is higher, if i do the timedemo xxx.xxx at game res. 640x480 the fps diference in my pc is about 80 FPS.
Im just posting results, saying nothing more than that... You can't say that 535 FPS and 710 FPS are the same. If there arent any side effects i dont see where is the problem really...
