Hello

When playing on the russian Elvis Victims FFA server i sometimes do /quit when FFA comes up in the map rotation. This is not due to me disliking the map, but rather that i most of the time have a high ping to these servers (around 100ms) and when trying to do the Aerowalk teleport-to-high-rl strafe "jump" i have like no speed = no aircontrol and i fall down on the ground. Every time.

Why is this and is there anything i can do to change this behaviour for me?

just for you?

lag is a son of a bitch. get used to it

usually if you can do certain jumps on low ping, you can do them on high ping as well (with a bit of practice - because you have to calculate the delay given by the ping). example: if u can do ztricks with ping 12 u can do it with ping 100.

BUT

in certain situations, like tele-exits, its harder to master. not impossible, but harder. generically speaking, its alot easier to lose speed with higher ping. to stumble in steps or other edges is common.
Usually you have to put extra effort to play at the same level with high ping than with low ping (understandable?)
Imagine a lpb vs hpb dogfight, both 200a 200h:

1) the lpb sees the enemy first and fires first
2) the hbp reacts later and fires
3) the hpb rocket gets lauched
4) meanwhile, shortly after 3), the hpb has eaten enemy rocket already and lpb has charged rl again and will fire again very soon
5) repeat until someone dies

hpw rock!
never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

Well, i can probably do 99% of the jumps i can do on 13ms on 130ms, but that tele exit jump on Aerowalk is just a whole different topic - i just stop in the air! It feels like it's not my way of doing it that's wrong, but rather that it's the engine that fucks up on a high ping.

The topic for this thread says i can't do "certain" jumps, but to be honest the Aerowalk example is pretty much the only one. It's probably the teleporter exit that's the villain of the piece.

Tbh the only thing you could do to make it on that ping is to look at the 2x5rox when and strafe right into the tele and then just turn as you come out. It's really impossible to make it almost any other way on that ping imo. I've seen sane make it on 160 ping this way too

Well, yes and no. It's an artifact of the fact that teleporter destinations are not predicted.

If you play at 130ms ping, you will have fallen down for 130ms before the server forces your angles to a different position and you then start doing your air control.

If you look at how the teleporter is aligned compared to the teleporter destination, you'll see there's a 90 degree angle. If you walk sideways into the teleporter, or just swing your mouse to the left before entering the teleporter, you can do blind air control onto the ledge.

Here's an example at 360ms ping: Aerowalk jump on a server in Australia.

I have exactlyl the same problem on elvis ffa. But I've done the jump a couple of times, so it IS possible

Anyway, this is best topic ever: a swede with high ping, YES!!!!!!!

what plazmaz said is correct too. if you strafe along the wall to the right of the teleporter (at low) you'll come out just fine on the other end, regardless of ping.

I never manage to get more than 23 ms nowadays. 100 mbit is a pain.
