i think a player like purri (q2/q4) would be a likely winner for thing like this.

or perhaps players that can adapt easily to different games and maps: voo/rat

Anyways, server settings / maps / mods would prolly be messed up in atleast qw/q2.

Purri sucks at Quake4

Vo0 is more flexible since he started with Quake2, plays CPM and seen a few demos in QW of him not playing bad
http://www.challenge-tv.com/index.php?mode=demodetail&demo=21931

details will be released soon

but picture this! if they decide to go with EZQuake as standard client.. a huge amount of people will see QW in all its modern glory!!

so we need more QW ambassadors (AkeVader ) to lobby for EZQuake and MVDSV (QuakeTV + MVD demos)

Yes, we should be using both eZquake and MVDSV. We're also most likely releasing a custom texture pak for eZquake for use in the QuakeCon tournament.

Still i can't imagine any european going as they would have to play the rest of the Quake series to win anything. Let's hope the americans can pull themselves together and show off Quakeworld, and maybe practice some of the other games and win the whole series.

Just a question.
What makes you so sure that they will pick QW? They said QUAKE. Maybe they will use Netquake. I mean it is a LAN. From the original developers point of view Quakeworld was built for internet play. Or am I wrong??

Purri, Fatality and Voo are names that comes to mind as potential winners. Purri obviously have a 1-0 already in Q2 against anyone. In Q3 and Q4 though, i dunno. Q3 and Q4 are pretty much alike.

QuakeWorld wasn't made only with internet play in mind.. it was made for competitive gaming as well!

Please feel free to send any and all comments and suggestions you may have concerning the QuakeWorld portion of the QuakeCon tournament. We have a maplist and ruleset in place, but now is the time to alter it if we are going to make any changes. Feel free to pm me or email me your suggestions (syncerror@idsoftware.com). We're looking at using 2 maps per game most like (DM6 and DM4 are the most likely picks, although we could swap out one of them with a custom map like aerowalk). Should be running MVDSV servers and eZquake clients. The server config still needs to be made..

so.. don't hesitate to bring your suggestions

dm4 and dm6 is the best choose from my pov.
dm4 - fast and technical;
dm6 - strategic and balance.
But 4 or 5 maps will be better .
Anyway, 2 maps per game is clever choose.
With best wishes, B1aze.

dm6 -- is a good choice, I think. But instead of dm4 (that some players play too defensive) I'd recommend aerowalk -- it's way faster, has more complex structure (not the blocks dm4 made of), and is better known to Q3 players.

I saw that Kovaak had signed up at least. Let's hope some more good americans have signed up so we can have some decent action. I dunno how much you've read about the competition but it's not very likely that we will see any top notch xxx QW action there. The reason for this being that when you play an opponent you might have to play them in Q2/Q3/Q4 - how many QW players have even tried those games?

Many qw players from NA have signed up.

Kovaak/myth/cyan/plazmaz/proz and others.

Currently Kovaak is practicing Q3 so lets hope to see how he does. I know he has a little experience in Q4 (but probably not on the latest releases)

GOOD LUCK to the NA QW players, lets hope they represent well.

Depending on maps kovaak should win all qw maps. Perhaps not dm6 vs some shaft gods.

KovaaK will be competing in the tourney. Cyan and myth will not be competing (hell Cy probably doesn't even know there is one because he's still in the UK). I might but I don't expect to win a single a Q2-4 map

Thump4 will be playing in the tourney. He's also been playing a lot of QW recently

KovaaK will participate but I doubt many other of the QWers will. I'm still unsure.

Amidst all the problems with SLANT, Jeffrey "Thump4" McShane was nearly disqualified from the tournament for bringing additional PAK files for Quakeworld that modified his crosshair and player skins. After a mild debate about the affect on the game that these additional PAKs had, McShane was allowed to continue on with his tournament. This forced tournament officials to start checking game files on tournament machines to make sure this would not happen anymore.

Duh, as if crosshairs make such a big difference! And if fullbright skins are not allowed just force yellow/gold baseskin like in the good old glqwcl.exe days...

In addition, one Quakeworld player has been caught cheating on LAN and has been ejected from the tournament. Through the use of custom files and a custom gui he was able to make the walls transparent, surprisingly this wasnt allowed!

and someone called tydligen did cheat after all

JESUS what a disgrace

maybe they overreacted about Thump4 after seeing another player cheating
