We all know CHTV, and we all have fond memories of the demos and the games those demos represent, hosted there in that huge ocean of QuakeWorld history. The 4on4 games that go into hundreds of frags only to be decided by one point. The duels between unknowns and between old rivals. The displays of sheer prowess of aim and tactics that can only be achieved after a decade of mastery of a skill.

All this is accessible from one resource: CHTV. There are other resources (qw.ru, esr), but CHTV is central to all of them. Many of them are simply mirrors that link directly to the demos that reside on CHTV.

CHTV has been maintained through the grace of people who, themselves, no longer play or take any otherwise active role in QuakeWorld. But they had a long time ago, and that is why they support it. But that support is running low for reasons beyond their control. That is why they are asking for help from the current QuakeWorld community.

A box is needed, 1.5ghz 2gb, 100gb scsi, lamp (maybe wamp) and root. The main need is bandwidth. An estimate by dK of the bandwidth needed: 4-5mbit 95th percentile or 800 gigs per month.

I know there are guys out there that have the means to provide this kind of bandwith. A box can be arranged as well. All you have to do is: determine if you can help, and reply to this

Or you can contact dK directly: GGL-DonKing at #ggl etg or qnet, or myself: \phil* at #mqm qnet, #qwplayers etg

Thanks, and cheers to you all,

Phil

Regrettably, I am not in the situation to support CHTV with what is required to keep them alive. But I wholeheartly hope someone is able to and will. CHTV and has had such enormous impact on QW and its scene...it would be an unbelieveable shame if it died.
