unwritten rules
Today my football team will play and I have checked all the forums for latest news and what not and came across fair play.
When a player is injured you kick the ball out and then the opponents throw in the ball back to you.

What is fair play with QW?
But lets start with fairplay in Football (or soccer for you zamericanz).

I remember Arsenal back in 02-03 when they were playing Westham (or Aston villa?), there was one player injured so the Westham kicked the ball out but Arsenal threw it directly in to a player in a very good spot to score a goal and Arsenal scored and won the game 2-1.
After the game there were discussions about the goal and arsenal replayed the game due to fairplay.

Do we got this in QW?
With all the drama its very hard to see the fairplay that occurs each day on the servers.

Let me help you with it, each time you play povdmm4 you don't take the armors and on end you don't spam!
2on2
If you think deeply its the same on dm6 (behind tele) and dm2 (camping low) in 2on2 games.
Camping for a little while is okey but not all the time.
4on4
Most clans in 4on4 show us great sportsmanship when picking servers and what not but we keep getting qwdrama (that we love) from time to time due to some people that wanna win at any cost, just as Arsenal did vs Westham. Shouldn't they feel ashamed of what they did or is winning more important than common sense?

What do you think about sportsmanship and unwritten rules in QuakeWorld?
Should they all be written on paper in black&white or are we all adults now?

One off the clearest is that u don't drop during a game if u get owned. And u don't stop playing.
And also, if you're on the winning team in a 4on4 rapemix, u vote for breaking the game if ppl on the team thats get raped wants to break.

you don't kill players who are lagging, and during 1on1s you don't kill players who are typing, unless it's some tournament game or the guy is exploiting your "fair play" to avoid getting gibbed.. imo

imo you shouldnt write in the middle of the game. If you do you have youreself to blame if you get killed. And when someone is writing in a middle of a game its mostly whine anyways so they deserve it :-)

and you shouldn't lag during games either, they should suit themselves for getting such shitty internet connections. kill 'em all, right? also, if someone is lying down, you should generally start kicking him/her. abusing disabled people is also good.

If you "paused" the game, you ask for the opponent's permission before "unpausing". The quotes are because KTX still doesn't support pause (shame!) so it's effectively a conversation along these lines:
A: phone
... a minute later:
A: ready?
B: yes
A: go

Unfortunately this is not very effective because the opponnent will often pwn you before he realizes you were distracted so you lose control of the map if you had it.
It would be so easier if you could just hit pause! So bug qqshka!!!

i think we need an timeout or pause option. I would like the idea of one tactical timeout of 30sec/1minute in 4v4 play.

In duels/2v2/mix/ffa there could be a vote-timeout option or max 2 timeouts(pauses)/player. This kind of features usually gets abused by lame players that are losing (see wc3).

at least i like getting my frags fair and square, knowing i deserve them. killing players who aren't even playing isn't right. if anything, wait until their "text bubble" disappears, and THEN kill them. that's ok. if someone is abusing your fair play, you stop fair playing against that person.

That Arsenal goal was scored against Sheffield United, not West Ham The Arsenal player threw the ball in the direction of the Sheff Utd goalkeeper, but Kanu, making his debut in English football, didn't know about this 'unwritten rule' and chased the ball. He then crossed it for Marc Overmars who scored.

Dutchies are lame and unwritten rules? Ah well, a game is a game. Why can't you maplock in 2on2 but you can in 4on4?

Fairplay for me would be no faking/dropping/laming around like not playing when you are loosing .

Bullshit rules, nothing to do with fairplay. Especially things like "you can do it but not too much". Reminds me of what QWTF got reduced to.

I've never even heard of those 2on2 rules. Ofcourse, you can agree to play any way you like with your friends, but don't expect or demand everyone to play like that.

Oh, and people who cant not answer the phone for 10 minutes are self-important. >

Although I know some wont agree but.... if you are on an ffa server with QUAD enabled and there are just two players. You don't grab quad until there are at least three players.

Fakenick, dropping because you suck, whining like i do sometimes =), spamming in ffa, not agreeing to break if mix is div0 against div50 and some wants to rpickup again...
If you write during a game its your own fault for giving away a free frag!
People who cant just let the phone ring have gotten their priorities fucked up.. its about a 20 minute game tops. so they can call back!
I agree with Pleura about ffa and 2 players. Unless its me vs some lamer like sassa *pussa*
However sometimes you have to go away from pc for a few seconds. Example: Your kid could fall and hurt him/herself (yeah some guys are old and have families ^^). So anything can happen and you let some shit slide..
But basicly we all just need to calm down and remember we are only humans (except sassa) so try treating people like you want to be treated!
