Gaz started playing NetQuake and then QW in 1999. He got in touch with the rather rubbish "Spawn of Satan" (SoS) clan through alt.games.quake and started playing something that could be described as 4on4 under the name ><(((('>. Around this time, he also started using IRC, and had to go by the name Gazfish or fishy. As a result, many people simply called him 'gaz' (a common abbreviation of his real name, Gareth) and this name eventually led to him adopting the nick in-game as well.

TSW rose up the divisions over the next few seasons, eventually playing in Division 1 of the UKCL. Gaz is a British QW player, admin and commentator.
