Hi! Hopefully someone can help with this...

When I start up Quake 4 I find that the screen has been "pushed" to the right about an inch and a half so what I see is a black strip on the left side and the game running out of room on the right side. I had the same problem with Doom 3 but just put up with it....but no more!

When I did a screencap and pasted it in Photoshop...it was fine! Hmmmm.....

I did some research and found that ID games are capped at 60htz....my machine is running at 75htz. I knocked it down to 60htz to see if that would fix it, but it didn't.

Asus a7n8x mommaboard
ATI AllinWonder Pro videocard
512 meg RAM (yeah...I know...getting more)

Funny that Half Life 2 worked fine with the same display setting (1024x768).

Am I on the right track?
Any help appreicated....

Well you're on the wrong forum, this is QuakeWorld, not Quake 4 But yeah that's a WinXP problem, XP tends to cap 3D games at 60hz. You can override that with either your video card driver settings, Powerstrip or some other 3rd party software like Refreshforce or Refreshlock.

install ATI Tray Tools and enable Refresh Lock. this option will maximize all refresh rates for any standard resolution according to your monitor specs.

and to get rid of that black strip resize/move the image from the monitor's menu ffs, it should remember the setting the next time you enter the game unless you have a shitty monitor

and oh yeah! Quake4 sux even more than Quake2.

QW & Q3 ftw

I looked through my ATI Tray Tools and that locked the refresh rate and that solved the problem outright....except for my lack of RAM!

Thanks for the help!
