They look like the correct textures iirc.

really? This is so ugly.

EDIT: According to this topic http://www.quakeworld.nu/forum/topic/3049/uj-tricks-maps
there is an extra .wad with textures.

Sounds reasonable. You can't put 32bit textures into the BSP directly. So probably when you develop a new map you use placeholder textures into the BSP but ship 32 bit high res textures along with it.

Ah right. I remember something like that being explained, but I was under the impression the map maker wanted to make it feel like a laboratory at the time.
