It's only two weeks left of the tournament now and we haven't had a single thread on here about the World Cup! So here goes; who do you think will win it and why?

My money are on Argentina (Messi hasn't even started producing yet) or, as a huge upset, Uruguay (Forlan & Suarez are butt ugly, but the compensate that with fierce striking skills)

For the first time in quite a while, I've actually watched a lot of games. They've set up a big screen in a park just 200m from my apartment, so spent quite some evenings there with a beer and some bbq food.

I would also put my money on Argentina. At least if they get past Germany in the quarters, which I think will be their toughest challenge no matter who they face in the rest of the tournament. I'm 90% sure either Brazil, Argentina, Germany or Netherlands will take it home this time around, and I'd give Argentina a slight advantage of those 4 due to their individual skills (pretty even with the other 3 of my favorites), and better defensive play compared to the other teams I mentioned. Spain and Portugal haven't performed at the level I expected them to, and I don't see them coming that far this time around. But sure, anything can happen of course :-). The referees seems to have quite a big of impact on this Cup as well ;-)

Argentina has impressed me in the games they've played, although i think they got very lucky against Mexico, where Mexico actually had the better start and could've scored a goal or two with some luck. Watched their games against Korea and Mexico live and it's funny how it doesn't seem as impressive in reality as it does on TV though, guess you'd have to be on the pitch to realise how fast they move and how hard they tackle

Germany has looked very strong aswell although they were very lucky when England didn't get that goal, would've been very interesting to see how both teams would react to that. Instead it was 3-1 and the english were unplugged :\

Germany scored 2 goals within 3 minutes because England f***ed up their two opportunities to score. Germany was simply stronger team, and yes, what happened to England is not fair, but it's no reason to whine or wondering how it will go in another case. Even if it was 2-2, Germany would still win. They simply out-skilled opponent, played better, "smart", that was real showcase what high-level football is. One of few matches i enjoyed so far.

I cheer for the FIFA heads to insist on not implementing video referee. Something has to remind me of qw scene stubbornness while it's qw summer and the drama is missing But yeah Germany played nicely so I hope they make it far.

Have you been to the old town square to watch any of the games?

Hehe, it's very "traditional" place to watch hockey and footbal yeah I just walked through there during one of the base groups games. I think there was no vuvuzela sound filtering back then so I quickly continued to my destination far away from there Not many people were there as I remember. You've been there? I'll be back in Prague no sooner than for the final game.

Forlan butt ugly??? I almost got a man crush on the guy...

I hear some people say Argentina has the best players and a good defense, but I have to disagree. Their defense is among the weakest of the favorites. Samuel is the only good defender, but he is out afaik. The rest is simply weak and the keeper is also very insecure. Compared it to Brasil for instance: Lucio, Juan, Maicon and Cesar are so much better. Only Bastos is not that good defensively and I am expecting Robben vs Bastos is the key to victory for NL.

In my opinion, Brasil, Spain, Germany or Netherlands will win the WC. I'm hoping for GER - NL final

Have you watched then? Just because he is an extravert guy and has a long ponytail doesn't mean he is secure in the game. There are at least 3 or 4 situations where he misjudged a ball and didn't make a decision to either hit the ball with his hand/fist or let it go. One time I can point out is in the Mexico game: I think Salcido shot from a distance and Romero decided to no hit the ball away and let the ball go through his hands in the last second and the ball hit the top post...

Neither do I. Argentina also has the best goals for - goals against stats so far afaik. Extremely fast to pressure opponents, and without the need of the show off bullshit like some individuals in Netherlands and Brazil have a tendency of doing :-). Also pretty much the only chances Mexico had vs Argentina except for the goal, was some shots at 25m+, which of course can be dangerous but seldom lead to anything. Brazil was rock solid in defense vs Chile, but it looked to me like Chile underperformed in that game.

The most epic final would of course be Argentina vs Brazil :-)

Yeah if one team can do it, its Germany. Would never bet on that game, unless the odds one way were very high. Could go either way.

Germany will win vs Argentina, as Blixem said, Argentina's defence is pretty weak (though smart and sneaky) but the active german midfielders and attackers will make them go dizzy.

Messi should stand on Lahm's side and decide the game for Argentina, but the Germans are stronger overall.

Yeah we've been there for a bunch of games. Especially for evening games its good, for day games its a bit too hot and you cant see properly because of the sun. Maybe see you there at the final? The amount of ppl depends on the game, for example England - Germany was quite full.

Well, there are still Argentina and Spain in our way, which are not exactly the easiest opponents, but to play you guys in the final would be cool indeed... let's do it!

Oh, btw, are you guys aware that a good part of Germany's success is due to van Gaal? He hand-picked Müller from the 2nd squad, placed Schweinsteiger in the def. midfield and Lahm on the right side (Lahm's favourite side). =)

I definately hold Germany as the favourite. Argentina hasn't met any real good opposition yet and the young germans will be too much for them. As previous ppl have said neither their defense or goalie has what it takes. I don't believe in Brazil at all in this tourney and think they might even get knocked out against Holland. This despite a Holland not playing at their best. Spain hasn't been playing at their best yet, but I still think they might reach the final.

LET'S GET IT ON!

perhaps the less skilled teams would have a chance if they played on a new cool pitch...

Well you have the futsal tournaments, "regular" indoors tournaments and also even beach football in south america (or wherever they play it)

Still, the outdoors grass pitch is TB1! \o/
