So last night my Lacie CRT packed in. I'm using a shitty Sony at the moment. You might think Lacie isn't a typical choice and you'd be right. I use(d) it because I do a lot of photo editing. I (briefly) thought about getting it repaired, but I know from past experience that way only leads to pain, so I'm now faced with the choice of having to buy a TFT that's good for both QW and photo-editing.

Help! I don't really understand all the jargon around TFT, and although I know there are 120hz monitors available, Renzo's write up of the Samsung convinced me that it wouldn't be any use for photo-editing. Suggestions?

I'm pretty sure no monitor exists that would be good for both, or if it does it's so expensive that it's cheaper to buy two, one for gaming and one with good quality picture.

You can always go for Eizo, but they seem to cost premium++. Also, even if the input lag on Eizos is low, they are still only 60Hz ones...

Well the Sony is pretty good for gaming (it can manage 100hz). So perhaps I should just get a decent photo-editing TFT. The only thing is, I know the Sony isn't likely to last more than a year, but I guess I can get another TFT for gaming when it blows. Eizo's are out of my range.

Thanks.

How about Dell or HP monitors with IPS-panel? They cost like half the Eizos.

EDIT: Maybe check the list from here and consider those with result "very good" only?
