hi im on an old computer, p4 2.0 ghz etc, running usb ports now at 500 hz, but was thinking of trying 1000hz to

see a difference, but since the comp is rather old im worried of destroying the usb ports or something,

how dangerous is it to overclock from 500hz to 1000hz for the usbports?

There's always a risk of something going horribly wrong when running computer related hardware out of specs.

The USB port itself won't be out of specs, but most of the devices are not meant to be run in other than the manufacturer specifications (ie. keyboards). In this case such device might not work, might work but could fail later or something similar.

Very dangerous. Make sure to wear a tinfoil hat while setting the rate to khz!
Seriously tho, the only risk is that some usb devices stop working if you mess with the polling rate. But if its already 500hz then khz shouldnt be a problem.
The worst thing that can happen is inconsitent rate. I recommend you use the highest _stable_ polling rate.

When you start data transfer over USB (e.g. print, copy from flash-disk, ...), much higher rates/frequencies take place on your USB ports. Compared to that 1000 Hz is ridiculous.
