HA! Hi guys, I posted this question over at www.quakeone.com and didn’t get much of a response:

1) I was wandering what is the best combination of "eye candy" tools to spruce up old quake? I had previously used darkplaces and the "retexture project" textures (which are somewhat incomplete), that was a few years ago, There is obviously newer tools and mods now.... so what to use? - I know of the rygel texture pack, even on my beast of a pc runs like a dead cow with the 2.7GB pack! and all of the links I've found for the various compressed versions seem dead...

2) In the event that my current set up is still the "most optimal" choice, has there been any replacement model projects to recreate the game models with newer high poly & res versions? - or at least high res texture replacements for all the weapon and monsters etc.

anyway I'm likely to ranting if i keep going, so come on peeps! help me out!

Cheers
BRAD

i have been using some content replacement stuff but there is no unified content pack that replaces everything and looks 100% faithful so i just stick to original unfiltered textures, even faithful work is not very accurate. i would rather see eyecandy achieved through engine post processing like realtime shadows and bump maps.

I guess there's no definite answer to this question because everyone got their own taste.
Just because I prefer QRP textures over any other replacement pak/compilation/whatever, it doesn't mean you will.

You can always check out replacements available over at http://shub-hub.com/files/.
