Hi,

I'm running WinXP (can't remember which SP) and ezquake 1.9.2 (will upgrade soon), I use phys fps 77 and maxfps 232 to avoid tearing and stuff, and it's super smooth... for like 45 minutes.

After some time of QW being loaded (doesn't matter how long my PC has been on for), my FPS displayed will drop down to 230, 220, 200... but it's not just the FPS, it's like the map starts jerking around a lot more, so smooth movement becomes much harder and rocketjumps harder too - by the time it hits ~160 (after a couple of hours) it has a massive impact on my play and I gotta reboot.

I *think* (will test this more later) that if I do cl_maxfps 0 when it's dropping, my FPS rockets back up again to 300-900... this is particularly weird and might be a clue as to why it's doing what it's doing?

Any help much appreciated

How might I check the memory usage out? Task manager or something?

The video card I have is some kind ATI card which was top of the range in late 2006... I don't think I've updated the drivers though (I heard about some problems with new ATI drivers?)

fps drops over me? heh
now seriously, ATI is not so good with qw.And by the way, i have an nVidia and i have random fps drops , not like you, just random. My fps are limited to 308 and sometimes they drop down to 10 or something. Last week i formatted my PC, but the problem still, my windowz services are off (the non-necesary ones) so dunno man :/

After watching the EQL semis last night my FPS was down to about 190 (from 232 cl_maxfps), but I found that if I put cl_maxfps up to 280 or something, the FPS would linger around 230 again... weird huh?

Ruskie is there a non-taskmanager way to see the memory QW is using?

If fps drops over time, it might be that some component is to warm (gfx).

If the fps increases from cl_maxfps 0, only means the avarage improved. The minimum fps might still be the same. Atleast that is the best guess i have.

Still plagued by this bug, though the actual jerkiness which comes in as well as the FPS drop only seems to be present when playing under the new CA mod, at geeky.cc:27511 specifically. I played a few TDM games last night and the FPS dropped from 400 to ~320 but wasn't particularly noticable. When the same happens in CA, I get this horrible jerking, RJ'ing / speed jumping becomes much harder, and I gotta reboot...

Ah found the fix - is actually a problem with the AMD dual core chip... simply downloading and running the AMD Dual Core Optimizer at http://support.amd.com/us/Processor_TechDownloads/DCO_1.1.4.zip seems to have completely fixed it
