the backpacks as weapons is because you are using frogbot, this can be changed in the frogbot mod by writing dropweap

About the music thing. I dont know what your problem is exactly, but i had a problem with playing music a while ago. (Music went on and off, on and off all the time) After playing around with sys_highpriority and sys_yieldcpu (setting both to 1/0 in all possible combinations) it worked. Maybe it can help you too.

I bought a "new" soundcard and switched to the Open Sound System just for QW. It had only benefits for the rest of my doings though.

use this script to start qw:
#!/bin/bash setxkbmap en_US ./ezquake-gl.glx # (or w/e you use to launch qw) setxkbmap es
