Anyone here use GTKRadiant to make maps?

friend of mine was looking to make a map and ran into some trouble.

Some maps in our mod uses lit files "I have really no idea what to do with these. I remember them from Quake 2 I think but this is going back 10 years.

Creating a map in GTKRadiant is going to be fine, but I can't seem to get the textures to render in there. GTKRadiant can't find them.

So let's say this bug is fixed. Then we have the level made and ready to be rendered... I have no idea what tools to use for building the level with BSP/VIS/LIGHT. Also where do these lightmaps come from?

What I would need is a zip file with a pre-configured editor that works like GTKRadiant or at least is somewhat similar.

Then I would need to be able to easily drop jpg textures in there and have them get converted for Quake automatically.

Then I would need to have the color lighting be scripted and rendered.

This is a tall order because most of the dev guides for this stuff are out of date, or simply wrong."

http://user.tninet.se/~xir870k/ are the tools to use. Dunno if they support coloured lights though, Tyrlight does.

The rest seems to be stuff to read and catchup. For example some basic mapping tutorials or GTKRadiant documentation.

Baker over at quakeone.com made a quakeadaptor some years back which basically is a preconfigured setup making quake maps with worldcraft 3.3 including all needed tools.
I have been using this and it seems to be working fine even though I'm a noob at mapping

Unfortunately it isn't available among the quakeone file downloads anymore but I found, what I assume, the first post about this over at func_msgboard which have functioning download links and installation instructions.

Have no clue if worldcraft matches up with GTKradiant in any way, but I guess the QuakeAdaptor at least should be worth checking out

I've been using GTKRadiant for my last 5 maps or so, i wrote a guide here on the forum at some point. Don't got time now, but will be back to help you if you can't find it.

does it work that way?

According to what? What editors?

He could try using QuArK instead. It's very easy to setup and use (but for me always leads to problems when I do complex things).

There is alot of tutorials out there, just google for radiant turorials, just remember that you cannot use that curving stuff that it got, thats only for q3 maps.

There is alot of competent and skilled mappers there, using all kind of different software

If you're still having problems, I'll make a full guide.
Regarding lit files, those are made by adding a color attribute to a light on the map, and you use tyrlight to build a lit.
