Sorry for being a complete newb, but I'm trying to get my qw server running on an ubuntu install, I followed the instructions here:

but when I start my server I get this:

execing server.cfg
couldn't open accounts
Building PHS...
Average leafs visible / hearable / total: 74 / 198 / 598


and it freezes there.

any clues on what I did wrong?

not sure what "couldn't open accounts" means, maybe if I did, it could help me resolve.

You should use the serverpack from qw-dev instead that howto is terribly outdated;
http://qw-dev.net/projects/ktx/wiki/Instructions

That did it!

That certainly was easy.

Setup was a snap following those instructions.

I have been out of the QW loop for many years, just getting back into it. (since 2001?)

This forum seems to be invaluable for help with quake stuff, I have used the search function and found many answers to stuff I was stumped on while setting up my quake stuff again.
