Thunderwakler CTF, an old CTF mod, has been resurrected with EZQuake as it's main source engine as dozens of "old school" players are returning to play again. I have been helping to update game textures/materials that are unique to Thunderwalker (four additional runes, walls, weapons, etc.) I had no problem with the new runes as MD3's (with new PNG's), updating walls or providing new skins to existing weapon .MDL's.

Just as other posts of this forum has shown, original weapon mesh verts were askew and Thunderwalker models are no different. I cleaned up the existing TW Sniper Rifle MDL, but then decided to redo the sniper rifle model from scratch and add more detail. Here's a Work In Progress shot in 3DS Max.

As I was developing the Material (PS CS2), I got curious and inserted the MD3 and PNG files, but all I get is a white model as if it can not locate the material file (as seen in this screen shot).

The MD3 is placed in a PAK file and under the PROGS folder as g_snipe1.md3
The PNG is placed in the PAK's PROGS folder as g_snipe1_0.png

If someone could please help me, I would appreciate it. Thank you -

note: If the MD3 is removed, then the existing MDL uses/sees the new PNG.
The MD3 was an export from Max 8 using ExportMD3.dle

rename the png file to g_snipe1. its easier to have the md3 file and texture both in the ezquake/progs directory.

Thanks for responding. Using the EZQuake/progs and textures/md3 route yields the same results. I also dumbed down the model to a simple cube to eliminate any poly/tri count issues (if that had any cause but I doubt it). I am now suspecting the Max8 ExportMD3.dle may be the bottleneck. Maybe the underscore character of the filename is a problem - I'll keep looking for a workaround.

Thanks again -

Found the problem... generally known as OE (Operator Error). When using ExportMD3, leave the "use material names as shader paths" as unchecked.

Here's the sniper model in game (still more material work to do). Both file names are in the progs folder (thanks Trickle).

I'll final post this asset when finished.

I love it when talented people pop-up from nowhere and do crazy stuff like this. I don't play this mod, but model looks better than good, and i hope someday you would do stuff like this for pure QW (we already have both faithful hi-poly md3s and mdls, it would be cool if someone talented make non faithful, modern looking guns and other stuff! Current Quake guns looks like from XIX century ).

amen!

faithful in all honor, but i think its time to step out of the dark ages.
not only will it look nicer, it will also attract a new generation of players if the game looks a fresh as possible.
test one two.
