it's not a bandwidth problem, you can have 13ms with 128kbit

Sometimes wireless problems can be fixed by using different/newer firmware on the router and/or drivers for the NIC.

Wireless can be fixed using a cable...... It's useless for anything other than your pda/laptop/phone, and even then - It's still bad.

Nah Zalon it doesn't have to be that bad. I'm using new DIR-655 router and Intel 4965AGN-card in my laptop and I can DL/UL at 8-10MB/s and it's rock stable. Happens that i connect the laptop to my TV and specs big games =)

Yeah, sure - but it will still give you a higher ping

Considering radio waves travels at the speed of light, I doubt it matters that much anymore with short distance (a couple of meters and clear sight).

The delay would be due to handling the signal. Old modems use the same wires that are today used for 50mbit/s (100?!) vdsl.

That's why I wrote "anymore" . I meant that the technique has gone forward, and I don't think it's that much of a problem anymore.

Yes, but those 2+ms can make the difference between 13ms and 25ms in qw.

One overhead that wireless should have, that direct cables don't, is encryption (you are running WPA, aren't you ;-)) although this shouldn't add much delay, if you have many clients you may notice a difference. Something that has made a big difference for me in the past is electrical noise - if anything is next to your wireless router/AP, try moving it - even a small distance like 4 inches can help.
