At least on windows, you get a 'qw is already running on this machine' message box if you try, on every client I tried. It'd be really useful for league admins to be able to spectate two games simultaneously. I downloaded the source and had a look myself but so totally out of my depth, I couldn't even get it to compile .

ZQuake/some versions of ezQuake have the -allowmultiple command line switch, which will allow multiple instances of QW.

I tried that with ZQuake a year or two ago after noticing Tonik had added the feature.

Started up a little local server and fired up around 30 ZQuake clients in windowed mode on a huge windows desktop.
Had all the Quake guys standing around the central upper ledge in dm6 and took a screenshot of the desktop. Even recorded a short demo, but it was a bit of strain for the machine

copy ezquake-gl.exe to ezquake-2.exe
open ezquake-2.exe with hiew or any other hex editor (or with notepad ), find string "qwcl" and replace it with "hack" or any other 4chars string.
use it

Edit: and one more - you can't do it with any ezq or fuh binary, cos official builds protected by AsProtect or some other only4noobs protectors. So, use it with unofficial builds if u can't find string in bunary.
With best wishes, B1aze.

or u just need to open sys_win.c from any qw client, find CreateMutex and CreateSemaphore and change mutex name.
Recompile and use.
With best wishes, B1aze.

Ban spectators :/. If someone wants to cheat by spectating their opponent, its much easier for them to just get a friend to do it and advise them using voice comms.

Or if you really thought that spectators informing players was a problem, you would use something like FTE's QTV for those matches and have Spike implement some 10 seconds (or whatever) delay in it. Status reports 10 seconds too late are probably not too useful.

I rest my case!

It looked to me a lot of greenness to believe that -allowmultiple is a feature for cheaters! It was meant to be a resource for development of mods. So we can connect to your own servers and make some sort of tests without having to ask someone to connect to your computers to do it.

IMHO, -allowmultiple is the best feature for creating double tricks with static helper. Dl ez1010 and u ll be happy.

like ui: frags is nothing, motion is everything, obey your motion.

Of course yes. What about big local networks with local IPs and NAT?
