hi all, maybe this can be a definitive post for how to record movies in ezquake. ive read up a little on demo capture this is what i have done so far. ive used these commands in my config:

//demo
demo_capture_fps 60
demo_capture_codec hfyu
demo_capture_mp3 0

thats setting the frames to capture at 60 frames per second and using the lossless quality codec huffyuv (hfyu). the mp3 0 is no loss of audio quality either. so that is the setup.

i start playing a demo through ezquake then in the console type in 'demo_capture start 60 test' where 'start' is the command to start the recording, 60 is the ammount of seconds i wish to record and test is the name of the clip that im recording. I do this, it records automatically to the 'capture' folder in my qw directory.

then on playback it plays audio but no video in vlc. just a blank black screen.

ive tried using virtual dub to resave the avi but this doesnt seem to work. ive set the compression in virtual dub to Huffyuv v2.1.1 before resaving the avi but it does nothing. obviously this is where i am going wrong. i need some help with what to do once the video is recorded and in my capture folder. i essentially want a full quality video that i can then edit in a video editing app and compress or change to xvid/divx if i want afterwards. any help would be appreciated

ps: why doesnt it just play the damn video once its demo captured!! why!

if you don't have the codec installed it won't record the video i think. so make sure it's installed before you start capturing. if that doesn't help then maybe try some other codec like divx or xvid.

Also make sure ezQuake is visible/focused when you are capturing.

Try other player than VLC. VLC uses its own decoders.

or MPlayer both, use "own decoder" = FFMPEG

That's why I paid for FRAPS, well worth the $20USD or so I paid for it many moons ago. It just works.

Of course if you aren't using Windows it doesn't do much good...
