Let's take it short...

WHY do we vote for RandomPickup in mix games?, Why not just pickup?

I think alot of you will say: It takes too much time.

But how many times don't you have to do rpickup again and again in every mix game, to make everyone satisfied.. This takes alot more time than you think. It would go faster if everyone just wrote pickup directly and then two players make team 1 and team 2, choose their players and then start... TADA we have an even and much more fun mix, we dont even need to restart or break the match after 7 min... No spawnkilling for 20 mins..

Ok let's round this up.

Pickup
1. It takes no time
2. Even games
3. More games
4. More good games
5. You learn more, get more skill
6. etc etc

Randompickup
1. One team get raped
2. It takes time to make the teams
3. People leaves because tierd of rapings
4. People don't play mixes cuz they dont give anything
5. Many games goes to breaking
6. Alot whineing about teams (under and after matches)
7. etc etc

Ok, yes I exaggerated a little.. But just so you get my point.

Pickup FTW!!

seems like "captain" command to me

agreed. Imo its great. much better than rpickup because of the reasons u mentioned but also because of drama caused of choosing soma instead of sassa
never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

i think client should support a cl_skill variable.

a player like dag or pietro would set cl_skill 99
paradoks maybe 90
div1-2 players like mm and persuader 70-80
div3-4 players like horatio would set it to 40-50 etc..

then the /fairpickup command would make fair teams according to some smart algorithm.
the command /whoskill would show what value everyone have set.

or the skill list could be stored on the server and moderated by qw-HQ. This would of course not work with fake nicks, but pickup doesn't work either...

or we just do rpickup a few times

I already have a perfect solution to this problem: pracpracprac!

Benefits:
1) You get better
2) The Quakeworld servers get even more populated
3) Mix games gets more even when everyone pracpracprac!

I actually think that cl_skill thing isn't such a bad idea but of course the big problem is knowing how to rate yourself. I mean can you imagine the hilarity when you've got Retic setting cl_skill 95 "I R TEH UBER PRO!" and then Fix is hanging around with only skill 90 or something.

The coolest way I can think of would be if skill could be defined by the other players - or in other words you rate each player from 1-10 and then server makes even teams based on the average skill rating of each player. This would also help to eliminate abuse (e.g. elite fakenicker setting cl_skill 30 to try and get better teammates). BUT, this would be pretty timeconsuming (and confusing for newbs) if you had to rate 7 other players before each map.

The captain system has been around for ages, since kteams and even before rpickup IIRC. Don't know why it isn't used more since most of the time rpickup gets spammed 99 times before everyone is happy / gets bored.

It's only useful if everyone knows everyone else, which usually isn't the case, otherwise it's just different type of random pickup. Also often people who suggest pickup seem to presume that someone else is going to be the captain, which is annoying. If you suggest pickup, be ready to do the choosing.

It's not like anyone would ever choose to team with sassa, so why would this stir up drama? After all, soma is a good player, which sassa is not.
