Hello!

I'm currently in Australia and heading to London in about a month for a stay of 12months+'ish. I haven't played QW for ages in AU because of a lack of players, but I'm guessing that's not such a huge problem over there. So basically, I'd like some advice and/or recommendations on an ISP in the London area suitable for QW'ing Speed isn't really important, latency/routing and cost are.

Cheers

Nildram (http://broadband.nildram.net/) should get you 12ms(ish) on most (all?) uk servers, 25 to nl, 38 to dk etc.. Although there might be cheaper ones that would too.

Lack of players? Bullshit, you can get a 2on2 or even a 4on4 (if you're lucky) game almost everyday. Just played a 2on2 with povo, def and sav at 3am

I'm only really interested in 4on4, preferably competitive 4on4, so yes, lack of players

Well in that case I can understand, 4on4 is pretty much dead in Australia.

Finally got a place to live and a job so will be ordering something in the next week...

A friend here has Be/BeThere whatever they're called, and that seemed pretty good even with interleaving on. And you can request that it be turned off. Obviously I can look at thinkbroadband for a bit more information, but are there any UK QW players with any experience of them?

Further to that, what servers are matches usually played on? I'm currently aiming for 39 to wargamez since that seems to be mix-central but would like to know where else I should be looking. It'd be kinda nice to get a UK perspective on this sorta stuff if possible, though I'm not fussy

Cheers

Probably about 2 to go weeks before I have a proper connection, BT are morons.

I had a bit of a play last week on a friends connection with laggy wireless lan and I'm terribly rusty, so don't expect much

I use Nildram and they're not bad, the ping seems fine.

Probably about another week - got a phone connection after 2.5weeks, waiting for the number to update on the ADSL ordering thingoes and then hopefully things don't take too long to get activated...

Who've you gone for in the end ?

At the moment i'm trying wrestle with Pipex to stop them from taking my money after i've already cancelled my account with them, this was the ADSL ISP i was with in my house at Uni before i moved out.

Don't go with Pipex.

Need to wait for my number to be added to some ADSL availability checker, but I'll be ordering Be (www.bethere.co.uk) when that happens.

When I tested Be at my mates place I was able to get very very close to 38ms to wargamez with his interleaved line and a wireless lan, so switching to fastpath and a physical lan should do the trick. I had to use a UK qizmo though because Be's routing to wargamez was a little bit odd, there seemed to be about 10-20ms of inexplicable latency, so I hope that gets fixed and/or that qizmo doesn't dissappear

Nildram would be my second option (though aren't they owned by Pipex?) if Be doesn't work out but I'm keen on getting ADSL2 again because I had that back in Australia and the extra speed is bloody nice

Nildram are owned by Pipex, but their level of service seems to be better.

It's getting worse though.

They tell me Thursday, so if everything goes to plan, I'll be muppeting about a little this weekend. I asked someone in London on fastpath to tracert jollen and they got about 36-37ms which seemed pretty nice. Hope that my connection is as quick
