Casual Duel Cup is a 1on1 non-eliminating tournament meant for rookies and low/mid-skilled players. One can think of it as the Duel Edition of QuakeWorld MIX League.

Signups are to be approved by the admin - we want to limit the tournament to lower-skilled players, coming mostly from the QML ranks.

A non-eliminating tournament structure (Swiss) will be used. This means everyone gets to play the same amount of matches, even if one loses all their matches. 4 or 5 rounds of matches will be played, with a pace of about one match per week.

All matches are Game of 3 (GO3), this means if one player is leading 2-0 you still play one more map. This is to give rookie players more chance to get experience under pressure of "official" match. You're welcome and encouraged to play more games after the fact, but only the first 3 games count towards the tournament score.

The rarely played ZTNDM1 is included, as it is a really simple map which is very easy to learn but not played a lot. Use at your own risk and discretion.

Format

  • Non-Eliminating Swiss-system tournament format
  • All matches are GO3.
  • 4 or 5 rounds of matches, 1 match per week.
  • No divisions, no regions.

Rules

  • Don't be a dick.
  • Don't cheat. You know THEY ARE watching.
  • Map order:

Toss (remove) two maps from the pool in the beginning of match.

Use /cmd rnd to decide who gets to choose first (Player 1).

Order: P1 toss map → P2 toss map → P1 pick map → P2 pick map → losing player picks next.

“Losing player” means the one trailing in total maps (0–2). If tied (1–1), the one who lost the previous map. A map cannot be played twice.

  • Settings: Standard settings by typing "/1on1" | To add match tag type "/1on1 CDC"
  • Pause rules: Each player is allowed one pause per match, once you have used a pause and use it again, you have forfeited the map.
  • Ping rules: Find a server that keeps both players around the same ping +/- 13ms, if no such server can be found, the lowest ping player will have to use cl_delay_packet to get closer to the higher ping player. If there's a dispute in what server should be used, contact admin on discord.
    • Players from NA playing in EU can request to play on UK/IE server. If both players agree, matches can be played on NY server.
    • Players from Brazil playing in EU can request to play on Portugal server.
  • Client: ezquake 3.6.x. or unezquake 1.3.x. For your own sake, update your client!
    • Remember to check with f_version
  • Ruleset(ezquake): smackdown
  • unezquake settings: If using unezquake: "F_ruleset check's must report CLEAR in ruleset check"
    • Remember to check with f_ruleset
  • Reporting: send screenshots in QML discord CDC channel. If you play more than 3 games, only report the first 3!
  • cl_idrive is NOT allowed, turn off your hardware SOCD functions if you have them.
