ID software created a technology cutting edge game engine in the 1996, where a true 3d graphics where projected for the first time on your screen with a 320x200 or even 640x480 resolution.

Later ID software released the source code that enabled developers to create game clients to use the full capacity of the modern PC and meet the modern demands of the community for higher resolutions and better graphics support.

Today with clients like EzQuake the game runs on native resolutions of modern PC's
