Nations Cup: Playoffs First Round
In the previous week some matches have been played in the Quake Nations Cup and the remaining matches are to be played this week. Let's have a closer look at this big all-Quake action, let's sum up the matches of the first rounds and also let's taste what more besides 4on4 teamplay is coming in this great Quake event.

Playoffs, Round 1, Fight!

The very first match that has been played was between Netherlands and Czech Republic
The result and report can be found here: NL - CZ. Team consisting of Division 1 (some call it even div0) stars like reppie and dragon didn't hasitate to do what they promised: "we'll show you some spawnpoints" It was quite funny game with some reppie nailfight (c) action, gg!
Netherlands are one of the favourites in this tourney for sure, we'll see how well they will be doing in the following rounds.

The second game played in the tourney was Russia B vs. United Kingdom.
Report with demos can be found here: RU-A vs. UK
This was one of the more balanced matches and we have seen an overtime in Claustrophobolis (dm2)! In all maps the scores were very close, The Abandoned Base was won by the Russian team, United Kingdom did take home the second map - dm2, the overtime was rather completely on their side.
In the decider even though UK managed to pick up more yellow armors and also more Quads, serox was causing the highest damage to the Russians, UK however have lost this match 177 to 218.

So that's for the matches that have been played so far. What we can expect next:
Game between Hungary and Germany should be scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, Mar 20th). We can expect this to be quite close game, Germany is the favourite of this game, mostly because of their 2:0 victory against Sweden B team in the base groups, but Germany should not underestimate the skills of the core member of Hungarian team, ]SR[zero

Sweden B are facing Portugal in this round, the schedule is not known yet, watch QW Schedule for further info, I hope the teams will let us know soon when they are going to play.

In Finland vs. Denmark match and also in Sweden A vs. Austria, Finland and Sweden are the clear favourites, I hope those matches will get played too even if it's rather clear what the result is gonna be. Or maybe it's not?

We've seen some stagnation of the activity on the Polish QuakeWorld scene. I'm not particularly sure what's the cause of this, I think that the typical "QW summer" is not here yet (I'm freezing at the moment here while writing this), I've been told that "everyone left because plast is not playing anymore", but that seems too strange to be true :-) I hope both matches Russia A vs. Poland A and Poland B vs. Sweden C will be played too.

One should not forget that all these matches in the first rounds are not always about the score and wining but about actually playing this great game. You can be writing the Quake history here, Quake Nations Cup is getting some nice attention on the world pro-gaming scene thanks to lots of supporting activities made by the core of the Quake.cz crew.

We will hopefully inform you soon about more action that is prepared in the Quake Nations Cup. I can tell you now that 4on4 teamplay is not the only game mode where nations will fight for the best nation title. If you are watching Czech Quake streams at pg24.tv, you already know some info and you also know what will be the prize. It's going to be very unique and very Quake-related, something a Quake player can be absolutely proud of. So if you are missing Duelmania, don't hang your Rocket launcher on the wall yet, because there gonna be frags.

So I wish all the teams good luck and have fun, upload your demos to challenge-tv, keep admins in #quakers.ws as much informed as possible about status of your matches and thanks for your participation!
