Does anyone know how this can be fixed, IF it can be or if it is allowed to be fixed?

When using no textures in ezquake, dark places on maps start looking really fucking ugly. I used to be a quake3 player before I started playing quakeworld and there it was pretty simple to just choose vertex lightning instead of lightmap which changed the looks alot and dark places were no more.

So, with no textures, dark maps like dm2 start looking really fucking ugly and therefore until I have this fixed I'll keep on with textures but without textures gives a better feeling to everything if you ask me, everything from shaft-aim to faster rocketpredictions and stuff

So can anyone help me =)

a bit big picture but hell, it'll do. As you can see I painted some red on the dark places that look real ugly, also revealing my killeromgcolor on my shaft =) gg

Are you using 16-bit colour by any chance? It looks like a low colour range problem to me.

Looks normal to me. The lightmaps in Quake are made for textures. Quakeworld looks like crap if you make it look like crap.

Yeah and there are shadows!

Its much much less noticable with lower gamma settings.
With your gamma settings, a lightmap sample of value 1 maps to an onscreen value of about 10, the difference narrows down when it gets lighter, meaning the dark areas get light really fast, resulting in very noticable banding.

You'll see the same effect with or without textures. Its just more noticable without.

The extent to which it is noticable varies between graphics cards.

What I wonder is. Is that black lightning model allowed? I though those things were banned actually, but if this is allowed i'm most certainly gonna use it as it's a lot better then the brigth white lightning model.

And if it's allowed what command do I need to turn it black?

It's not a different model, it's just a different coloured texture with gl_shaftlight set to 0.

I believe the texture in question is called bolt2_0.png, so just place an image file with that name in qw/textures/models of whatever colour you want your shaft to be.

I prefer to be able to see where my shaft is hitting, but to each their own.

spin, yeah i know but I did so and the only thing vertex lightning changes in ezquake is the lightning of objects such as red armor and weapons
