The sdCup is a premier weekend tournament featuring a hefty prize pool and top class talent. It encourages even pings allowing for the entire world to participate online in epic weekend bouts between the best players out there.

This edition of sdCup is a one day, single elimination duel tournament meant to showcase the Frozen Five, an edited version of the Big Five perfect for the upcoming winter holidays, and of course to have some fun with a high octane action 1-day duel tournament!

All players are required to be present in the #sdCup channel on the main QuakeWorld discord 30 minutes prior to tournament start. That means, be available 18:30 CET or you might lose your tournament spot.

Prize Pool

The tournament will have a $100 base prize pool added to any donations.
Current prize pool: $1,000.00 USD ($900.00 raised through donations)

Registration

You can register for the tournament on the Challonge tournament page, or by letting us know in the #sdCup channel. You can also privately register by messaging Andeh or Alice.

Before signing up, make sure to clear your schedule and be prepared to invest 5+ hours into playing, especially if you expect to get far in the tournament. sdCup#1 took roughly 6 hours, for reference.

Reporting

Reporting will be done in the #sdCup channel on the main QuakeWorld discord.

Servers

This is a world wide tournament, meaning you might have to play games on a higher ping than you're used to. Strive for fair pings, but use this as a general rule of thumb:

  • East coast NA vs EU = Ireland
  • West coast NA vs EU = New York
  • AU vs EU = India
  • AU vs NA = Los Angeles
  • BR vs AU = Los Angeles
  • BR vs EU/NA = Miami

If you can find a server with lower pings for both of you, I strongly suggest you use that one! This is just a general rule of thumb and not a requirement, however striving for as equal pings as possible is mandatory. Use whichever antilag setting suits the situation. We would recommend using antilag 1 when available and on higher pings.

Rules

Start time

Sunday, 12th of December, 19:00 CET (1:00 PM ET)

Format

  • Single Elimination 1on1
  • 10 min duels with 3 min overtime
  • All rounds are BO5
  • Ruleset: smackdown/qcon
  • No map repeats

Allowed clients and rulesets:

To avoid any confusion, the only allowed client is EzQuake (www.nquake.com / www.ezquake.com) version 3.2.2+ (If you for some reason are using a 3.5alpha version of EzQuake, make sure it is an alpha18 release or higher to avoid bugs), and naturally the QuakeCon Release.

The only allowed rulesets are "qcon" and "smackdown". Make sure to do f_checks before the game starts.

Game settings

  • This should not come as any surprise, but regular 1on1 settings apply.
  • 1on1
  • DMM3
  • No powerups

Map picking

There are no map repeats. Using a lower-seed-picks-first system.

Example:

   Lower seed picks 1st map
   Higher seed picks 2nd map
   Lower seed picks 3rd map
   Higher seed picks 4th map
If necessary, the last remaining map is played.

Streaming

Coverage as always on suddendeathTV.
