Digitalocean (hosts of nl.badplace.eu) recently changed the pricing for various packages, so I've created nl2.badplace.eu, which has the ram & processing of nl.badplace.eu, for the same price of nl.badplace.eu & race.badplace.eu combined.

I'd like to get rid of original nl & race servers and just have this new server instead - hopefully with multi-racing in KTX as standard now, we don't have the problem of running out of ports that we had before. Had one complaint of NL giving ping spikes and one complaint of NL being a laggy server generally, if this doesn't fix it then two options remain: going to dedicated cpu (2.5x the cost) or giving up on that data centre and using something else instead (this is hosted in AMS2, which was also nl.besmella.com back in the day).

Anyway, give it a test and let me know if I've missed anything. Unless there are major complaints I'll shutdown the old servers and update the DNS this weekend, and copy demos & race records across.

edit: apologies for not qtv/server connection difficulties earlier, should be back to normal now. Scripts updating other scripts, it's too modern for me.

The server re-shuffle continues... I've added london.badplace.eu, which will take over from dev.badplace.eu. It's exactly the same spec as the new server in NL, and running the same versions (but has bots enabled). I'll take down dev.badplace.eu and only put it back up when running specific experiments.

Special thankyou to lordlame for donating towards the server fund.

Again, try it out and let me know if there's any problems.

Still to do:
- Create common map-pool from three existing servers and copy to new two
- Copy race records across from race.badplace.eu
- Copy one week of demos across, backup the rest

Good list!

nl2.badplace.eu now runs 6 ports instead of 4
maps can be downloaded through QTV again (incase you need to spec and don't have the map)
dev.badplace.eu now points to london.badplace.eu, original server shutdown
race.badplace.eu now points to nl2.badplace.eu, original server shutdown
race records & demos have been copied across to nl2.badplace.eu

I'm away for a couple of days but will merge nl.badplace.eu early next week.

re : london.badplace.eu

we tried a mix there earlier tonight and it seemed ping spikes were occuring and some packet loss too.
North america players seem to ping better there though (blood_dog at least)

I had a stable 78 ping, which is amazing!!! I did notice a couple people had a bit of PL, hopefully that can be figured out because that routing is a keeper.

Due to packetloss & pings on london.badplace.eu, can I ask people try london2.badplace.eu instead? It's the old dev.badplace.eu server upgraded, rather than a new server, so has kept the ip address and is hopefully a bit more stable.

Hopefully still decent for the canadians too. I don't think these servers will ever beat quakeworld.co.uk for europeans but hopefully at least the packet loss will go away so it's an option for NA players.

Okay people generally seem happier with london2 server, so I've taken down the original 'new' server and london.badplace.eu is now 'london2' server, I've deleted london2 DNS entry.

Okay that's london dealt with - does anyone have similar problems with nl2/race vs nl? Again: different ip address range but same data center.

Haven't heard any complaints about nl2, so am going to go ahead and shutdown nl.badplace.eu tomorrow. This is your last chance to scream.
