It has come to my attention, that Atrophy has passed away. Many of you may know him from the scene. He has been part of it for a very long time.

I never met him in person, but I had the privilege of playing with him both in 2on2s and 4on4s (mixes and clan).
He was a great and friendly guy -- We kept in touch very frequently.

He also contribute a lot to the scene.
On his spare time, he wrote the QTV Website --- http://qtv.quakeworld.nu

He will be missed.

Rest in peace my friend.

We only ever interacted when I pushed to make your neat QTV-page the official one with the nifty graphics. You were always quick to update it whenever it needed tweaking.

Rest in peace, my fellow quaker.

was a very good player and a dedicated member of the community.

A dark day for QW, much darker for his friends and family.

rest in peace, Atrophy, we will definitely miss you.

Oh no this is terrible news. I played dmm4 and coop quite a lot with Atrophy ever since I began the game. I loved his dark sense of humour and all of his gentle but dirty insults that he would cast my way, but when it came down to it he was such a sweet guy and always helpful when asked. Such a great character and such a credit to the game.

Oh man, Atro had an enjoyable dry sense of humour and was a great player, open minded and always spoke his mind. I liked and respected him, was always glad when he was around. RIP.

ps. not sure he had family/kids, think that may have been an in-joke on the wiki

I'll always remember Atro as the guy who "has no microphone". He was always lurking on TS, but never said a beep. We used to joke that he probably has a falsetto voice. Apart from that he was a rock solid player and I always felt better, when he was in the line-up, whenever we played a clan war. We used to pick on each other all the time in a funny, exaggerated way.

Rest in peace, brother... You'll be missed

There was a message on the QW Facebook page that he passed away in cancer. If the kids part wasn't accurate (as Darff's post suggests) then perhaps a cancer fund collection would be a good idea to honor him.

So sad to hear I can confirm that I got a message from him just over a week ago where he told me he had cancer and not long to live.

He kindly offered me access to his much appreciated contributions like the current MetaQTV site. I had hoped to be able to reinstate his creation at another hosting dedicated to him in some way. I'm sad to hear that he passed away before being able to pass his creatings along as was his wish.

I think I speak for us all when I say that we as a community are proud to have had him among us.

Sorry to hear on Atrophy's loss..... my first encounter with him was back in 2009 in the first fusion clan arena league and then again in 2014 when we did the league again. He helped get QTV working on all the servers I ran and was always willing to offer a helping hand when he could from his busy schedule. RIP Atrophy

Sleep well Atrophy

Atrophy was an important member of our community! He will be missed.

Atrophy was a great co-op player as well. He probably had the record of the biggest killstreak on the Bloodfest. I heared rumors of high five digit scores.

We will be having a series of coop events in Sundayspawnfraggin in his honor in the coming months - one of the events will be pay to enter, and all the money will be forwarded to his family.

Please contact me if you knew Atrophy well enough that you have a way to contact his family.

Didn't know the fellow but it's always sad when someone in our QW family leaves us.
Cancer is a bitch.

Agree with what Åke Vader said:

He found out roughly a month ago --- he told me he was on the hospital on the 17th August. Further exams showed that there was nothing doctors could do, he had just a few weeks.

One of the last messages he sent was "Bye mate"
I guess after that he was too weak to reply to any messages.

Yesterday his wife told me that James passed away.

Regarding contacting the family, I have his number, but not sure how long it will be "active".
Also not sure if we should, just thinking about the emotional state of his wife/family.

Just to clear up the confusion, I talked to fro who edited Atro's wiki page and he confirmed that the kids thing was just an inside joke. So, he doesn't leave 4 kids behind. Not that it makes it any better, but I guess we know now where any funds should go to.

A great loss to the community. Atrophy was a stand up guy and an absolute pleasure to duel against, despite my always being on the losing end.

Rest in Peace mate. You'll be sorely missed. See you soon.
