Haha zanne, funny guy...
No stroller is on the right track, Quakeworld LAN 1(since we probably will continue if the interest stays)
I will barely be any head admin, I just want to make sure the LAN takes place.
Any quakers from Stockholm are welcome to help since carrying chairs is quiet a chore for 5 people.
come to #qhlan if you like

btw, let's call eql zql instead? zanne's quakeworld league ?

Winner is you. Any more married quakers? I don't think so.

Stroller: I'll try, but I can't promise anything. I was looking forward to some friendly banter with gaz, but since he's not coming I have my doubts...

Sounds nice of course.. but it will take some dedication and hard work from admins to make this a reality.
From a player's point of view:

1) Homepage

Must be up and COMPLETE in october at latest.
Information should be prioritized and shaped with some thought.
Short messages/announcements ("news"/images) on the frontpage on how the preperations progresses would do
Forum usage answering specific questions important as well.

2) Tournament structure and organisation

An overall tournament schedule has to be official in just a few hours after the openings of the lan (at the time you know the actual participants).
Top clan and players doesn't really enjoy crushing less skilled ones (and vice versa). So finding a good tournament model is important. A gold and silver tournament? Seed better clans/players? I should not answer this, but i know most players prefer fewer big decisive fights than a lot of "half-interesting-you-just-want-get-over-with" ones (goes for all tournament types).
And remember, there are no model making EVERYONE 100% happy.

3) Coverage

Organize some official qizmo cams for the big games! .qw messages @ irc when you're about to is enough.
Spectating areas at the lan must also be better organized and prepared than before. Inform attendees when an interesting game will happen, and wether it will be shown/cammed.

4) Prizes

First off, most quakers is driven by the joy and/or glory and doesn't see prizes as a must to attend.
BUT.. there are exceptions, especially among top players. So, by guaranteeing prizes for, say finalists in all gold playoffs(or whatever), wouldn't only attract more elite material, but also increase the quality of the tournaments than if you didn't.

Secondly, you have to understand people coming from abroad hesitate coming. It's not free travel to and from the lan. Maybe work out some sort of help with travel expenses (perhaps handpick "gold players" or whatever and help them economical depending on the distance/way of travel?)

All these actions makes MORE people signup EARLIER.

Just my spontaneous ideas.

yes, most of these things are done(except 1))
the travel-thing you must understand that petrol is no cheap either but we do pick up people from airports/busstations etc for a nice price
the tournaments, we walk around asking who wants to participate and then make brackets as fast as we can, then announce them on the webpage as soon as possible
to make the 4on4-tournaments with gold and silver-divisions needs more participants
qizmos are made for the big games, I believe we do announce the finals as well

it's sort of going, the site is under construction(for real) and the venue isn't really clear tho, we are planning on asking another LAN-assciation if we can have qhlan with their lan in the same place and therefore won't have to pay so much. This would also be closer for some, coming from various places.

Hoping to meet you guys there
