I have a question that you guys can help me with (I hope). Whats the best fps to use? general i know.
info on setup
i7 920 2.66GHz
dell crt at 140Hz
evga 460sc 1GB
800*600 res

At the moment I'm using 280fps, 140*2. Reason being 4on4 and ffa make my fps drop. (I was using 560fps for duel)
Someone said I should use the same fps for all gamemodes so I dropped it to 280.
I would like it higher, or is this ok?
what could I do to make my fps higher in 4on4, ffa?
or
Should I use a multiple of physics fps 77 (eg 385)
Is it ok to use different framerates for different modes?
Hope this is clear for all you who are not native to uk.

If possible I'd try to get 154hz, you could try adding it as a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel. Something like this could work well:

154hz
cl_maxfps 308
cl_physfps 77

(Obviously I'd still recommend reading the blog above for further info)

In terms of using different framerates for different modes, personally I'd use the same for everything so that you can get used to how it feels. FFA is the most taxing mode (bloodfest aside) probably depending on the map pool, for example on xs4all ffa there is dark-terror-ffa.bsp which is much slower than any commonly played 1on1/4on4 map.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm now running at 600/480 res, 150 Hz and 308fps.
I will try bump my refresh rate to 154Hz later today. Quake definately feels different, its hard to tell what though. It feels like I can accelerate quicker, maybe I'm just getting better at the game.
