I played for the first time in many, many years the other night. I went to boot up again but Quake wont start. If I start from STEAM I can chose 4 start options: 1) Quake, 2) QuakeWorld, 3) GLQuake, 4) GLQuakeWorld. Only the "Quake" option works but the graphics are...bad...and my options very limited; so limited there is no "quit" option. Weird. When the game eventually crashes it says it will search the net for solutions but nothing happens. I get the following error message.

Please help if you can. Thank you.

Well, do use nQuake then (that is, ezQuake-gl.exe) and not glquake.exe, which is very, very outdated and absolutely horrible graphics wise.

Also, there is an issue with nQuake, it won't start if installed in Program Files and not run with elevated right. So right-click ezquake-gl.exe and choose "Run as administrator".

Instal nQuake from Steam\steamapps\common\quake. Rename ezQuake-gl in Winquake and replace original Winquake.exe. Start Steam and run you Quake, Use 1 tab "Play Quake"

THANK YOU! I made a shortcut to ezQuake-gl.exe instead and it works. It was not in my x86 dir so I didn't have to change anything there.

Happy hunting all!
