I've been really into SC2 lately (playing qw maybe once a month if that) and there is a lot of entertaining content about sc2 out there. Day9 has a whole series of shows, focusing on getting players to get better, djwheat has a bunch of shows, interviewing top players, etc.

But there doesn't seem to be one so popular about quake. (Is there?)

Now, I'm not looking to do anything crazy. And I have no illusions about how big the SC2 crowd is vs quake. Its probably something like a billion vs maybe a thousand, even if you combine all the quakes

But maybe something like a 1-hour weekly show, with various elements? Go over some rookie mistakes from user-submitted demos, take a couple skype calls, interview a couple players, etc?

I can do all this, but I need feedback in order to get motivated :p What do you think?

Also - where would I advertise this kind of thing? I know there's lots of little quake sites out there besides qwnu.

Ideally, I would like it to be a show about Quake FPS in general, with different hosts for different quakes that they know about.

I think this is a great idea. This format is totally new to QW (as far as I remember) but seeing how many people regularly enjoy live commentating on games, I'm pretty sure it gets well accepted. Personally, I'd only be interested in QW and Quake topics, most likely I wouldn't even bother if Q2/Q3/QL were covered, too. One suggestion: It might be a good idea to create concepts/agendas for a few shows (10-15?) now but not start the run before September/October, whenever the summer break is over. You'll get a lot more listeners and surely more motivation than doing a quick shot in a few weeks during summer when very few people are going to listen.

Definitely sounds like a good idea and i bet if one just give it a bit of thought, the content will be pretty easy to come up with. A one hour weekly show on a set day and time in the week would be a very hot thing! Would this be done via mumble/teamspeak/whatever or would it be possible to tune in just using windows media player, for example?

I'd say post stuff like this on all kinds of Quake-series related sites.

I would watch every episode, most likely 2-3 times a day just because of the awesomeness.

Andy, we did have some shoutcasts in the past with HT, gaz, sassa, other people who were around back in 03-06... I agree with you about preparing some shows, and then waiting until the scene is alive again, to not lose motivation.

However Phil, you should talk to Jehar if you wanna do an all-round Quake podcast, he does some on tastyspleen.tv that you can check out.

Anyways, I think it's an awesome idea

Neat! Even though it was only a test show, it was actually really good. Can't wait for the next one.
