Went with the GTX470 in the end as it is significantly cheaper than the GTX560 and I probably won't keep it long enough to make the power savings worthwhile.

Btw, where do you buy your stuff, and do they ship worldwide?

They do ship to europe however those deals (480 @ £195, 470 @ £144) expired yesterday. Also I get free shipping whereas by the time you've paid to have it shipped overseas it may not work out any cheaper than local etailers.

I got 560 and its terrible for qw, had 8800gt before with no fpsdrops, but this card is a joke. Can't use earlier driver because of no support.

Just sell it and get a second handed gf9600. I really don't understand why ppl would buy a new model card anyway, unless they really need it for other computer stuff.

560 is multiple times faster than 8800gt in pretty much everything (2,5x times the bandwidth, 3,5x the shaders, architechtural improvements, etc) so it will run ezQuake faster than 8800gt. If you are having problems with it, especially fps-drops, then try toggling threaded optimization in the drivers. If that doesn't work, uninstall all previous NVIDIA drivers and install the newest WHQL driver (266.58 I guess), it works ok with GTX470 at least.

Also, if you are running W7, maybe you should toggle the mmcss tweak too, it is known to fuck up fps if you are using motherboard's integrated audio chip.

I must say I'm amazed to see QW running stable, with dynamic lightning on, on a ONBOARD Radeon 3000. I haven't tried higher then 77 fps, 'cause that's what I've always used in FFA, but I remember trying a standalone Radeon 3850 and it wouldn't run stable at all.

I tried Fodquake and FTE, but mainly Fodquake. How can a IGP perform better then a way more powerful standalone card?

Only my fan seems to run a tad higher, but temps don't come over around 32 degrees celcius.

system:

M5A78L-M_USB3 (with ATI Radeon 3000 IGP)
AMD X2 260
4 GB DDR 3
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

I would advise anyone who thinks about buying a gtx560 not to do it. There seems to be a problem with the drivers which causes games to crash and sometimes freezes your whole system. The nvidia forum is full with complaints:

I have a friend who has one which is absolute fine, I am already on my replacement card I have to send in again, as it has the same error.

Could you, or anyone, explain to me WHY you'd want the latest GFX series? I mean, are you guys video/3D pro's that really need this expensive stuff? Why not a 460 instead of a 560 for instance?

I have a Radeon HD 5670 (cheap and not bad), QW works fine at 500FPS.

I seriously thought about getting that Radeon HD 5670 too at the time, but I didn't because of the bad stories about Radeon & QW. Do you need to turn off r_dynamic?

Not that that would be such a problem for me, but it IS kind of silly if it's necessary to turn it off (opposed to an older Geforce model that can do anything).

I share your radeon concerns and my new comp will be intel & geforce all the way as i think that's the best bang for the buck in any case at the moment.

Well, I took out my Geforce 9600GT (low power model) because I wanted to quit gaming. But, like I said, I can actually run Fodquake with stable 77fps (probably more), which is what I've always used as ffa player. Plus it's more energy sufficient and more quiet this way. Yes I totally understand IGP isn't an option for the rest of the people here, but I tested this thing out and I can still be in peoples face with this onboard thing on xs4all ffa (I used IGP as nick)
Of course, I get owned by the better guys, like Lacuna, etc.
