Well, aside from "practice, practice, practice", the best advice I can give you is to release the forward key in the same instant you press jump. If you hold it down then you do a diagonal strafe jump, and that's not what you're trying to do right now.

The best map for practicing basic movement and acceleration is called "speed" and can be reached by going to a server and typing "votemap speed". It's a gigantic, flat circuit which gives you plenty of time to gain speed and understand what makes you accelerate.

Also, you look kind of awkward with your movement keys. To which keys do you have directions bound?

First jump is a key, turn on speed count by command show_speed 1. It should be ~450-480 for good 1st jump.
1. make a good 1st jump
2. release forward button
3. press strafe l/r and move mouse
Check maps sj/ssj (you can download them from any server, 93.81.254.63:27502 for ex.), if done then try to finish ztricks/ztricks2 and you are god of QW moving.

start with ztrain, ztrain2, zjump and ssj, then go over to ztrick* (as mentioned before) and when you can do them, move over to hoppa2 and when you've finished that you can do whatever you want =)

I use 2 for XIV and XV but they are probably possible in one. Are there any other easier trickjump maps like ssj?
