1) Is it that unstable in-game?

2) Who gives a shit how stable it is, you ping better to the UK than me, and I live right next door, for fuck's sake!

Uh-oh, does this mean Time will be getting 11ms to geeky soon too? Or have you got some kind of elite company connection going on or something?

I'm getting O2 broadband tonight so, hopefully, will be pinging ~20 to geeky...we shall see.

Nope! He just plugged a really long ethernet wire from his PC directly to geeky server

Zalon: Don't think this will help, Spain to Portugal = 120-140ms, don't know why. Probably politic reasons....

Try these new Danish servers then: qw.foppa.dk:27501-27502 and qwfwd on qw.foppa.dk:30000 - We just got em up yesterday.

Woo, without fastpath from UK I'm getting 25 to geeky, 25 to qw-dev (france), and 39 to wargamez/foppa (going thru geeky qwfwd to foppa to save 2ms). Able to get 40-50 in .cz thanks to using qwfwd's (qw-dev one is very good), Finland seems the highest pinging euro server with 77 direct or 64 thru pangela.se qwfwd.

Going to phone up ISP to try to persuade them to turn interleaving off (enable fastpath)... apparently they don't do it, but I'll threaten leaving them or something.

For any UK players who'll search the forum looking for a good & cheap broadband ISP for QW: O2 broadband 20mb is £10 a month if you have an O2 phone (free install), you get the first 2 months free and we got £100 cashback going through quidco - so it's effectively £0 for 1 year and £10 a month from then on. Pings are above, and I'll update about whether I got them to turn off interleaving or not (I expect an ~8ms drop if they do).
The estimated bandwidth on my line was 11mb, initial download tests show just over 8mb is reality (on a 20mb package)

Quite the same problem occurs to many Polish players - this main, big, post-communistic and monopolist-used-to-be ISP also never turns interleaving off. Thus, instead of being like 13-15 ms, we are 30-35. Some using other IPSs offering lans are getting 13 ms quite often, but not everyone is able to connect to their structure.
Sadly enough, even in our own country we can't be lag-free :/

So I can expect more like a ~15ms ping drop if I get interleaving turned off?

Absolutely. You may get less than 15 ms ping discount because it depends on a user.
At least it works that way here. Make sure They turn FAST mode on. Lower pings everywhere. Could be compared to vsync in gfx cards - turning off makes your fps sky-rocket

Well, the principle is simple: maximize profit, minimize cost. New customers are constantly coming and The ISP doesn't want to put their funds in their network structure improvement. Just leave it as it is with slight decline in services quality? Who cares about response time apart from on-line gamers? So, say, 80 % of their customers won't even feel the difference.

truth is...

this really isn't MY ping.

It's the ping i get from work - which is a telecom.

I can estimate that i will ping at home to foopa.dk servers no less than 60ms
At work its 15ms

the difference of ping is amazing... I get the same old crappy ping at home.

I wish we could all have lower pings

hihi, keep dreaming, right?

Well, make a qwfwd server in your work, and your home's ping tru that proxy will be lower.
But make sure your boss doesn't notice.

Its not that simple, im behind a zillion firewalls and proxys.
anyway, even if i could do it, the connection home <-> here would add many ms. so it is worthless.

Interleaving is like error correction - only if your ADSL line is nice and clean, free of any noise or whatever, can you turn interleaving off and not suffer random disconnections etc. If you don't live far from an exchange then it should be fine to be turned off - during my research I only encountered about 5% of people had to ask for it to be turned back on because their line was dropping etc.

O2 don't do fastpath Darff. I don't know why you went with them and not Be*, apart from price. My house is pretty far from exchange, only get 4-5mb speed but rarely get disconnections. If I can get 13ms to geeky in game then you surely could have too
