Hi peeps!

Some of you may know me from pro-x/shockbot/q1a mods etc. Well... I'm not TECHNICALLY a programmer, I do 3d game art for a living professionally.

I did remakes of the Quake1 weapons probably about 2 years ago now, but left them untextured and untouched for the longest time.

Here are the renders from a couple of years ago that I didn't really show anyone. Just did them over the course of a few days. I'll most likely improve the models as it comes time to working on that particular one.

http://www.bendarling.net/temp/ngqw/

As you can see if you look at them side by side comparing the original id software versions with my own, I've tried to keep the silhouette's VERY faithful. I've seen other weapon model remakes around and have no intention of comparing mine with those, or even looking at them (I've seen a couple, but not many). I'm just reworking the id software ones into a more current state. Pushing them into current times hopefully

I'm thinking it's time I dusted them off and started to texture them. I've started with the grenade launcher, that has it's uv's done and now I've started texturing it.

http://www.bendarling.net/temp/ngqw/gl_01.jpg

This week when I dusted them off I thought it might be beneficial to model proper high poly versions of the weapons, but I stopped about 3/4 the way through on the grenade launcher, simply because the old designs that were made to suit low poly... really just don't benefit from being translated into high polygon counts. Sure the curves are smooth, but there's really not a whole lot going on that makes it worthwhile. Especially when it comes to the time taken vs the free time I have available

Anyways, that's enough blabbing from me. Let me know what you guys think. Oh and if you think they suck, it's hazeus's fault, he pointed me here to post!

That looks fucking rad. Nice work man. That's what I think of when I think of the QuakeWorld nade launcher. An industrial looking tube that spits out pines. PTUNG PTUNG. CLING CLANG CLANG. BOOM! BOOM!

Thanks everyone!

vegetous: md3, mdl is too wobbly and rubbish of a format (no really, as much as I love quake, this has to be said) :S - i may just do straight conversions of them later on after they're all done though for people who are into that sort of thing.

Zalon: hehe those damn bots are pesky things! I really need to kick things into gear working on those. Talking with Spike atm with getting them running properly in FTE. That'll definitely inspire me to do more on them, having them play in q2 maps! I loved the quake2 dm maps

I've made some pretty good progress with the GL texture, nearly done will show by the end of the week.
Meanwhile... it looks like someone has lots their thighpad armor! (yes, this is a super-early teaser for what's to come)

Awesome work! I hope the next thing you do is a player model ;>

Just one minor comment: could you use something else but imageshack? like bayimg.org? Imageshack only works like 10% of the time for some people (including me)

Use FTE then. However, that not matter of md3 support, but rather cgame/csqc support also, and even this will be supported, there still no mods which support such tehnoligies.

But yeah, Electro did some nice shit, btw, may we ask in which company you work? May be we seen your 3d art in some games?

Looking great!

Still, PLEASE USE SOME OTHER IMAGE HOSTING SERVICE LIKE WWW.BAYIMG.ORG . Sorry for the caps but just..dont use imageshack mmkay? It's slower, has ads and is not as reliable as say bayimg.

Took so little time to make that it's probably not even worthy of a post, but whatever... at least there will be a log of stuff I've done this way.

Ok another part for today...
This one is based purely off the base texture... so it may still need some work, can always come back to it later and make any changes, but it'll do for now!
